Well, it kind of doesn't add up. That's what I surmised when just glancing over the add.
The add states all original, but the sunroof is not original. The suspension pictures were also strange. Obviously the car has been well cleaned up. I alos see some stories there somewhere. No mileage indication also looked strange.
Green and interior perfectly great and all, but I think I would not be in for 38.000!
Yeah looks like some sort of manual flip up sunroof. That's not good. Any chance this was a dealer option thing in Germany back in '78? Also good catch on the missing wipers Hoi.
Don't know about europe but my guess would that aftermarket sunroof being an American thing^^. Looks like a Zeibart (or similar) sunroof a friend installed on his Honda Civic back in the day. T

Agreed. That looks like cheap aftermarket. What a shame, because that really hurts the value, IMHO. Wipers are no big deal, but this would be one that I'd want to see in person before laying out the cash. Something looks funny with that right rear quarter & the marker light.
I hope someone here steps up! I'd at least like to see more photos of that beauty!
Looks like every picture was trying to conceal the sunroof and the odometer. Nice (shrew) marketing and it worked on us for exactly 3 hours and 1 minute!
Still nice, but not $38,000 nice.

1990 S4 Auto, GPW over Black, 72K miles, no rubbies. Previous repairs due to body damage, some rust on the quarter panels, misaligned rear bumper and hood plus other issues. Recent dyno shows that engine is down on HP to 266. Seems like an excessive loss in HP over the years. What HP should you expect for an aged but well tuned S4 motor?
No sale at only $9,444 bid. Although honest in what the needs were, this is a lesson in how not to prepare and present a 928 for auction. A couple of simple things may have helped this meet reserve.
First, get rid of the aftermarket audio and speakers.
Second, install the correct wheels. If you don't have them, sell the ones on the car to pay for an original set. Even if you don't like the originals, who cares, the majority of bidder will so get over it.
Detail the engine bay.
Detail the car for that matter.
If you can't do it yourself pay for a few glamour shots in a cool location.
If you have new parts for the car, install them, don't offer them up in a box. For example the seller said he had an un-cracked pod.
Not as simple, but invest a few grand to get the TB/WP done. At this point of 928 auction exposure in the last few years, not having an up-to-date TB/WP maintenance is almost a non-starter, especially on the interference models.
Fix the A/C. Especially if you are selling a car in the summer.
Make sure you have a correct air filter and it is installed right side up. You may not get praised for it but it will prevent you from being called out on it.
Install a jump post/drip rail cover. You will get praised for it.
I'm sure Dennis could add double the items to list easy. In fact maybe that's the best advice. Just copy what he does!

Really? No 1989 S4 have their original digital instrument cluster? My 21k mile '89 has documented original cluster. How about you '89 owners?

Still a nice S4 g2 (digital cluster, shorter auto ratio, etc) that should had hit above $12k. I think the recent runs of nice 928 kind of made the "ok" 928 depreciate more. The car deserved better :-)

And that's the kinda the point. Those with intimate 928 knowledge understand its value and can see through the warts, but those bidding or looking to bid are often not familiar and just looking for reassurance that the car is up to snuff. And the way this was presented it was never going to get that reassurance.
