That's a solid price. What would you guess this would have sold for even a year ago?

A sort after 86.5 5 spd with aftermarket wheels, >100,000 miles, and blue interior (not the most popular choice IMHO), sold for >$25,000 is very nice indeed. Wonder how much more if the receipts/upkeep are the same with original wheels and >100,000 miles.

BAT is hot right now if you want to sell a 928 in good condition, IMO.

I think this is a break-out phase. Soon 928s will command the price they warrant in other sales platforms too.
I'd say make the most of the CL and barn-finds. Not many left of the cheap steals to be had.
Nadir over.

Default FS: The Koral Red GTS

With much sadness, I’m putting the Koral Red GTS up on the block. To the best of my knowledge it is the only GTS in this amazing color delivered to north America, and it is in fantastic condition. Overall the car is stunning to look at and to drive. Absolutely the nicest car I have ever owned, and probably the nicest car I will ever own. Mileage is 101K. It is in Honolulu today, but I am thinking to deliver it in the LA area, possible at Sharktoberfest ‘16.

Details:

Body and Paint:
The body is very straight and original. No rust at all any where that I have seen and unbent frame rails. The paint looks fantastic and shows no sign of any kind of clear coat failure. It does, however, have a variety small nicks and scratches as I suppose is normal with a 100K mile car with original paint. I do suspect the drives rear fender has been resprayed mostly just because there are many fewer nicks and scratches than on the passenger rear fender. Front spoiler is there but somewhat distorted. I’m not totally sure if a GTS is meant to have a belly pan, but this one does not. Rubber seals all around are in perfect shape and the car seals so well that you feel it in your ears when you slam the door. There is one paint nick on the passenger rear fender that might perhaps qualify as a small ding.

Interior:
Very nice condition. Museum quality dash. Rear seats are perfect. Front seats are perfect except for a little greying on the drivers seat bolster. No warping of door cards or rear quarter panel liners. Carpets are in good shape. Instrument pod is uncracked but does have a small hole that may have once held and aftermarket alarm light or something. Door cards have a pebbly finish rather than the smooth finish I have seen on other 32 valve cars, which seems strange. Between the front seats is a special piece that once provided mounting and power for a car phone rather than the usual cassette holder. The cell phone is long gone. I think it is stock or at least dealer supplied so I have not removed it, but I can include a core cassette holder that needs to be recovered if necessary. Personally, I would try to find the correct cell phone even though it would be purely decorative.

Glass:
All glass is perfect and tinted in a subtle but effective high tech ceramic tint.

Engine and Trans:
Engine idles more quietly and smoothly than any 928 I have driven. And when you put your foot in it, WOW. Shifting is smooth and correct. Not a drop of anything is leaking from this car onto the floor where it sits. Engine looks clean and stock with original paint on cam covers and intake sides still in good condition. Manifold center may have been repainted. Thrust bearing has been checked good, and flex plate released. In the last few thousand miles I re-did the timing belt (gates), water pump (lasco), tensioner (porken) , timing pulleys (tyson), and fuel pump (wabro). Yeah, not stock. Sorry. I can include to original tensioner, the prior water pump (still good I think) and stock pulleys if desired. There is an error message on the dash that says Differential Contr. Off, which seems to indicate that the PSD system is off. The PO stated that this started when he had an aftermarket audio amp installed and that he thought that the installers had knocked loose a wire our put a screw through a wire or something, however there is also a receipt from the dealer stating that they thought the pump was bad. But the documentation also clearly shows the dealer had no clue what they were doing with this car, so its anybody’s guess. I’d plan on having someone go through the PSD system and likely installing a rebuilt pump. I think its about $1k for a pump and the work, but there is nobody in this state that I would trust to do it so I have held off. I have not noticed any undue oil consumption, but I have only been driving it about 1K miles per year, so that might not be enough to see it. There is sometimes some pinging on hot, humid days when driving in the hills. Perhaps most folks would not notice this but I live in Honolulu. In the hills.

Brakes and Steering:
Breaks are awesome. Rotors and pads good condition. Steering is good with new ps reservoir and high side lines, and steering effort is light. Sometimes it feels a bit looser than some of my 928s and I suspect delrin rack bushings might be a good idea.

HVAC:
The PO spent big bucks going over the AC system over and over trying to get the cabin to cool well enough for Honolulu. Turns out the problem was that the recirculation valve does not reliably open. I have a new replacement actuator, and it is included in the sale, but I have not installed it as the GTS is a little bit different in this regard than other year models, I don’t want to learn the hard way on this car, and there is nobody in this state I trust to do the work. With the recirculation valve closed the HVAC system works nicely. The car is equipped with front and rear AC, but I think the lines to the rear AC are disabled somehow.

Wheels and tires:
The photos show the car wearing Carerra IIIs but it will be delivered with the stock cup rims which have their centers painted in body color. These rims are in good shape but one has some of the body color paint flaking off. The photos show the Carerra IIIs not because I think they are prettier (they are), but because the stock rims are currently nekkid. My plan is to let the new owner select the new rubber to go on the stock rims prior to shipment.

Documentation and Misc:
The PO kept all receipts from about ’03 to about ’13 when I purchased. There are records of over $60K in service, and these will be included. I do not keep receipts (too depressing), but I keep a log of work I do with dates, and that will be included. All stock manuals and such are included as well as several keys.

The Deal:
I am thinking $38K including delivery at Sharktoberfest (or somewhere else in SoCal in about that time frame) with the stock cup rims and new tires of the buyers choice, and Hawaii plates. There would be a $2500 –probably- non refundable deposit. I would only consider refunding it if you could show I missed something major in my description. The tires would have to be something that was available in Honolulu. Any parts mentioned, records, and such would be included. If there is no particular rennlist interest I will probably put it up on BAT sometime next week. I expect the BAT ending price would be well above the rennlist price.
PM or email me (k_ruiter@yahoo.com) for more info. Or post. Sniff.

I spent an afternoon with Karl cruising around Honolulu in this GTS last April. It's a beautiful car in an amazing colour. Karl's description is accurate to the way I recall the car to be. For those who haven't met him, he's a great guy; honest and trustworthy. I would not hesitate to do a deal with him.

Karl, sorry to see you're letting her go, but I know you have enough other cars to keep you busy . GLWS my friend.

+928 on all said here. Having enjoyed seeing this car in person it is really an amazing color and over maintained by a fastidious known owner here. Karl, you are selling it for far less than it is worth. This is a $50k plus car easy.

Thanks guys. Yes, I think I am under valuing it here. I'm ok with that. Having said that, I don't much expect to move it here, even at this price. I expect it will go to BAT which will be a bigger hassle, but higher $.

Next one up on BaT. Rough around the edges but potentially solid otherwise. I think this is a fellow Rennlister's car?

At this rate the BaT community is going to think we are dumping toxic stock! Share prices could plummet after an initial spike....
