928s for Sale

I would be interested. The engine bay looks neat and clean for a car that's been sitting for 5+ years. The interior woes can be solved with patient shopping and some time in the garage.
If you're mechanically minded (or you want to learn to be), then go for it.

It's only a few miles from me, so if anyone is seriously considering this, shoot me a PM.

Interesting non-matching Linen door cards.

No offense to the seller but I am always wary of ads that spend an inordinate amount of time on "trivial" issues such as condensate in a tail light or lack of water intrusion. Its typically feigned ignorance of more pressing problems

very true. He also said everything works but is missing the switch cover for the passenger window. Looking st the engine, most likely needs a full refresh, full fluid change and careful look at coolant...

IMO, the days of being able to find a 928 that just needed a few mechanical things here and there but was otherwise in "driver-shape" cosmetically are over. Sure, we'll see a few crop up from time-to-time, but the low-end of the market (<$20k) is going to be filled with 928s that really need a ton of work to be reasonably-reliable. I've written before that I think the market is going bi-modal at this point: 928s that have been well-maintained, refreshed and/or restored and 928s that need extensive refreshing/restoration. Not many will be left in the middle. So what's that mean? Basically, unless a prospective buyer is looking for a restoration project, 928s offered via these 9-picture-Craig-List-style ads should be approached with no assumptions of fitness. Or, even shorter: PPI required.
In this case, '89 being my favorite or 2nd-favorite year, and since it looks like it needs everything mechanically, I'd be planning on pulling the engine and tearing down to at least the short block. So, as long as it starts easily once heat soaked, I'd not worry about TBF, since the added expense of replacing main bearings being incremental when it's on a stand. But, the cosmetics look poorer-than-average even through those low-res pictures. 10-12 years ago this was a $4 or $5k 928 at best. On the other hand, maybe the pictures just suck and it's in pretty decent cosmetic shape. The interior doesn't look too bad actually. I don't see the door cards mismatched. There's only one shown in full.

Here is a nice looking '86.5 at a GMC dealership near Dallas. Silver over blue. Showing 62K miles, heated seats, rear A/C, all leather interior. Seats look to be in very good condition. I'm not a fan of the steering wheel emblem though. And it could use an original head unit IMO. But not bad on the surface it seems.

I’m confused about this one, It was for sale from the same dealership 6 months ago, then pulled off market when a Rennlister here started a thread about purchasing this car to replace his wrecked ‘85 manual. Now the car is back in the market last week from the same dealer. Maybe someone can search for the thread, but I’m sure it was someone here who spoke about buying this car.

You guys are good. I found Simon's old thread about this car. That GMC dealer obviously has left the old ad up. Glad to read that Simon is happy with the car. Good find.

Dave - I think he meant to say they don't match the rest of the interior. In fact, both doors have white carpet and that doesn't match the rest of the car either. PO was 1/2-way through a carpet change? Both door interiors were swapped from another car? Inspired by Magnus Walker? The world will never know...
