928s for Sale

There were 3 928's at the BJ auction, and none of them were stellar examples. The one above was a red over tan with a stated 43K miles. I don’t believe it. The car looked very well used in the photos, with way more than the stated miles. No service records were mentioned, and no mention of any recent service. Assume it needs everything, from timing belt/water pump, to fuel lines, etc. The interior had only one picture, showing a cracked leather bolster on the driver’s seat. No shots of the dash, etc. I’d would have guessed retail on this car would be no more than $8K or so, based on what I saw in the pictures. So $20K was a real surprise. I've seen much better cars going for his or less on BaT. Lot 157, which was a slightly better example (also an S4 with fairly low stated miles) sold for about the same price. This second one was a repaint, and for what they disclosed as spent for the repaint and the other maintanence, could not have been a high quality job.

A car many of us have seen before at various times now for sale on BAT:

I make two predictions. 1. Reserve will not be met. 2. The seller will get into it with somebody when negative comments are made.
I can't count the number of times I have seen this car for sale since 2012. The seller either does not want to sell it and lists it to make somebody in his life happy or has a very distorted view of the car's actual value. I would have bought it in a heartbeat if the asking price wan't insane and stayed that way.

Agree with most part, except for the part of what his perceived value would be important. His POV simply doesn't matter when the car is being auctioned on BaT. They have an internal evaluation tool and will determine the value of the reserve. Even with evidence of a car's particular history, provenance, they will only move 1-2k at the most. Therefore, if BaT sees what others see, I predict the car's reserve will be somewhat realistic and the seller's attitude will get the car not sold at the end of the week. However, the car has been asking $30k for years and one of the euro 5 spd sold on BaT with same Prussian Blue paint was Stan's! It's Stan's fault that his car threw the curve!
Seller's response and attitude are so important on BaT.

If BC's car is used as a benchmark for low mileage 5 spd 86.5, this car should be easily worth >$75k. $45-50k
Let me go find some spare change under the car seats.......
Edit: sorry, I missed that this is an auto, not a 5 spd manual. Yes, it would be around $45-50k, since GB touched the car.
However, the 100% dark blur paint with 100% dark blue interior is going to be hard to find the right buyer for the top dollar.
My guess: $45k and the car will switch hands.

They got things wrong on the 928 and the 1999 911 . The 911 had watercooled heads not like the later models ...and I listen to that guy say facts about other cars and think to myself he knows so much about so many different make cars .

I'm helping the owner sell the car. Turns out that I've coincidentally known this car my whole life. The current owner is a long time Orange Coast PCA member who found it about 5-years ago and started the routine of getting everything up to as new working condition with the help of parts from Mark and labor by Greg Brown.
He bought it from the original owner who was the mayor of the town right next to where I grew up. My parents knew the owner and my dad used to tell me that this owner had a big collection and a 928. I was begging to see it...well, ironically, I now get to drive it a bit. Wish I could keep it.
