Just wondering if the timing belt replacement procedure is the same for the 86.50 as it is for the S4's. I am about to attempt my first in the coming weeks.

For the most part it's the same. On the S3 you have to remove the belt driven fan and shroud where the S4 has electric fans. When you remove the fan the throttle cable bracket is attached, be careful not to pop the actuator rod off the throttle body as it is tough to get back on.

Also, besides disconnecting the engine wiring harness at the 14 point connector, you don't have to mess with it.
