Older one is a 5 speed.

What I can see thorough the window of the other one looks like an auto.

Kinda like to have that '82. I wonder what the story is. Can it be titled with only a bill of sale? What was broken when it was parked? How bad is the interior?

Wonder if the interior on the early car could be brought back, of it has been in the weather too long.

Nope...... not in California. Only work around would be a faked lien sale but still have back registration fees which can be HUGE ....

Ducman82 03-29-2016 10:18 PM

so if you have a car ,and dont register it every year they still charge you?

karl ruiter 03-29-2016 10:34 PM

Not only that, but it racks up geometrically increasing fines. The registration itself is not bad, about $70/year. So even 5 or 10 years would not be bad. But the fines get out of control as I recall. In Hawaii the fees are something like $350 per year, to the back registration can be pretty expensive, but they dont nail you with fines the same way.

Too bad about the reg. I saw an early can on the freeway last time I was in LA and since then I can't stop thinking about having an early driver there. I had kind of been thinking of Leon, but I think he is gone now.

Thought about that, for almost a full minute. No doubt that the transmission and the clutch pieces (if any good) are worth $500 each.

However, the problem is that one needs to get rid of the rest of the crap.

That's the real issue.

Call Ecology Auto parts as you load the 928's onto your trailer...
Schedule a "come get it" pickup for a few days later.
Pull the trans and anything valuable, and they will collect the body and give you lunch money.

I might look back, in twenty years, kicking myself for letting these two cars pass me by.....but I think I'll take the chance.

If anyone goes by and the '78 has the battery box cover, I need one.

I don't have the box checked on my license. Maybe I should. Someone may want my battery box door.

Otherwise, it's straight to the crusher.

well you can register it in a different state, then reregister it in California... but that is a pain unless you do some good team work.

Nooo dont call Ecology autoparts, the parts we take out is worth way more than that plus some of it take a while to take out. Rather spend the group effort and dump it at Marks place. Personally I wanted a dash that I can play around with a modification.

Auto for the sunroof and Manual for the no sunroof

Yes it is in Sorrento Valley, right behind the Torrey Pines Collision Repair shop. And according to the text: BOTH CARS HAS TO BE MOVED. I dont have spare tires, nor space at my house =(

Hey BC, if your going to buy it, ill want some parts too =P

BTW: It's 500 for BOTH cars.

The main problem is Tires to even move them, & Space to take out the parts. Plus the time to take out parts)

karl ruiter 03-30-2016 05:18 PM

Is the collision repair shop involved with the sale? If so perhaps they could do the lein thing and a title could be had.

Have not been in Sorrento Valley since '87 when I worked at Link-A-Bit, right at the time it split into Qualcomm.

I have an empty parking space in South Pasadena and AAA+. Since SV is about 100 miles from SP, it could be do-able.

Dang it, wrong coast...looks like there could be quite a few useful bits there.....

docmirror 04-01-2016 11:36 AM

I bought an Avanti from CA a while back, and towed it out of state to register. It was pretty easy if there's someone with an address out of state you trust. Then, I moved it back to CA with the out of state plates, and re-titled it in CA for a few bucks. Modest hassle, mega savings.

Anaheim should have some roller wheels and tires one could borrow for a few days to move these puppies and suck the life out of them. Anaheim would need to get a few bucks for a month of tire use, but I think it could be done. If I was still on the left coast, I'd take my hauler over there and grab them, but alas - I have moved to the Republic in the south now.
