Default Clutch Pedal Feels like it's Hanging up

Sometimes when I'm releasing the clutch on my '79 5-speed, it feels like the pedal or the clutch is hanging when it comes up off the floor as I let out the pedal. I don't believe the pedal is actually getting stuck, just the engagement of the clutch. This results in a quick and jerky initial engagement of the clutch - other times it works fine. The feeling is like when there's a strand of wire that has come loose on a traditional clutch cable where that strand gets stuck on the say in or out.

Clutch is new and upgraded to the pinned '83 on intermediate plate setup.

Any ideas what's wrong - slave cylinder, clutch master, trapped air, etc?

I would say there is air in the system, give it another bleed.

Assuming that everything was fine after you installed the new clutch...Sounds like air in the system, or master or slave are leaking. If the latter, it will eventually leave you stranded like it did to me

Check fluid level in the reservoir. If low then look for leaks. Pull the inspection plug in bell housing to check for slave leak.

Updating this as the problem is slowly worsening, but now it does feel like it's the pedal getting stuck on whatever it pivots on, like if there is a nylon bushing the pedal is mounted with, that feels swollen. I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't had time to bleed the system since this original post, but that's one of the next projects on my list. Just thought the new info about the feel difference might make for some different suggestions on what to look at once I do get in there. Thanks.

Take a look at the pedal shaft itself.

Not sure about a '79, but the pedal on my '82 was formed of seam welded hollow aluminum. I had a "weird feeling" clutch for a couple of days and then the pedal simply broke off at the top. Only time the car came home on a flatbed...

Replaced the hollow pedal with the solid cast aluminum version.
