The sleeve which fits around the shaft shows small rub circle internally , it looks as though as the shaft failed it grew in area and rubbed the sleeve , you see if you blow up the photo that the shaft has a peak at each side of the fracture point , my observation suggests that it started to twist before failing , the pedal started to engage long just before failure , I thought this strange now I know why .
The clutch is not stock , Jim Berry from race clutch here (Stanthorpe) removed all the self adjusters , (he has been a Sachs agent for 40 years) and modified the plates for 4 fingers and increased the clamp pressure .
The clutch is magic to use with no semblance of slipping , and very uniform and light , it is converted to use Tilton pedal box in the cockpit with a quick release connector.
I am seeing him tomorrow for a backup set .As he is getting older and as these knowledgeable people disappear the knowledge goes with them , young peaople are not interested in this line , I will post a photo of his plates later on.

Designed to hold 800 ft.lbs, which no engine we've built has reached.
Almost certainly, the stock torque tube shaft will break long before my clutch shaft.
(Which is why I build those out of 300M, also.)
The clutch shaft in my custom clutch is larger and designed to hold 1000ft.lbs.
Extremely robust!

It's smooth, even in reverse?
If so, your guy is a clutch God!

I'm building street cars with that much torque, now.
These owners want/require something very smooth.
......If you can't toss the keys to one of your friends and ask them to back your car out of the driveway, without any instructions or warnings, while you are cooking steaks on the barbecue, it's not a viable street car.

Mr. Brown I fully agree with you, I would never put a puck clutch in any of my cars used for street driving. Remember years ago I helped a guy with his turbocharged Volvo. The car was extremely fast but the clutch was a nightmare.

This clutch you could drive on the street and not know the difference , you cant replace 50 years of experience building clutches and improving on the original oem .
Interesting Jims original profession was electronics , similar to mine .
