For wiring harness, go to the sports store and get a roll of hockey tape.
Used for wrapping the grip spots on hockey (and lacrosse) sticks.
Cheap, strong, adhesive-backed cloth tape. IN black or white, maybe other colors.
I repaired my engine harness and wrapped with a roll of it, it's a pretty good match to the original stuff.

I just ordered some of the fancy German stuff to make a new harness for my Austin Healey. Probably not much different. Authentic 1959 technology.
