Lingering Question about S4 Engines Achieving 400HP

Yup, it's that easy.
1. Buy Colins cams
2. Buy Gregs intake & headers
3. Take it to a shop and he it tuned.
You will never achieve LS power for LS money with a 928 engine. The volume simply isn't there to justify such a production run.

You like the power of muscle cars.
I prefer the powerband of a sports car. No right or wrong answer, just different preferences.
I've driven enough big block Corvette's that can pull your house across the street. I'll take a high revving small block any day of the week over them. One of my favorite cars to drive is the 355 Ferrari, no torque to speak of but that's why you have more than one gear...... Last time I checked the 928 isn't equipped with a 2-speed power-glide.
Every time I drive my 928, as often as possible.
Greg's post about the nature of the automatic is about the only reasonable explanation why anyone would prefer a high torque, low RPM engine in a 928 (for those with a RogerBox)
However, we are not dealing with a VTEC 4-banger here. I have yet to see any performance built 928 engine (boosted or otherwise) that didn't have enough torque for spirited daily driving.
Frankly I think this debate is over rated. I think someone would have to go out of their way to build a 400hp 928 engine that a poor torque band.
At the end of the day what are we really after? I thought it was to go faster than the next guy, which means shifting at readline.....where all the horsepower is.

in your life, you will NEVER stack up to the "wimpy" porsche GT3 power that can woop any Zo6 Z07 on any track doing anything on the track that you can imagine. its all about power (and weight to that power). getting near 500hp with only 250ft-lbs of torque is a beautiful thing. But, since you are a little confused. think about this............... the "torque" actually is near the same at any speed you would want to travel at, compared to the Vets and vipers. the best part, is that the sound is better out of the high reving V8s vs the stump pullers. close gears allow you to allways be in the HP peak range, so in the end, hp for hp, it doesnt matter how much torque at the flywheel, because the torque at the wheels is the same at any speed!!

Whiney little pukes, Literally, I am a church caretaker.
I was a Porsche mechanic for many years.
Now my shop is a nonprofit operation for the poor. Just ask Tony77.
When I hear you guys whine, well , I wanna puke.
I love our cars, but we are better men than that.
Tony is a shining example of that.
When i asked him several years ago, he donated a car lift to my church . no questions asked.
I cant tell you how many people that he helped. and is still helping.
Quit whininig ya pukes!
I still say torque wins!

One reason to keep the MAF screens is to reduce the chance of the two 6mm nuts, that hold down the lower filter housing, from being sucked into the engien when they get loose.

MAF screens (1) straighten out the air flow across the wire (= more accurate readings), and (2) keep prying fingers out of the works. :-)

Burning Brakes
My car started with 290 RWH . Pretty much what you would expect from a low mileage 91 GT in perfect running condition .
Now its pushing over 350+ RWH
Gets better mileage
runs super smooth
the power band starts at a lower RPM
so lots more midrange
and still passes emission tests
There is still more power to be had , by going to better headers / dropping the cats / perhaps some intake mods like upfixing is suggesting .
But as it in now is simply a fast car win -win
I often go on a early morning run with the Porsche club , the rules are no Porsche passes a Porsche . So you follow the car in front for the run .
So last summer I was following a late model GT2 . I found that the GT2 could just barely walk away from my GT . Later when we stopped and chatted the GT2 driver was impressed that the GT hung in with his car .
So real world driving
