Default 1987 intake refresh. What is this part?

Can someone tell me what this capped off metal tube is for and where it leads?
Thanks
John

this is an air sample tube there should be one in either side of the exhaust manifolds,
this port samples the air before it reaches the cats

Is that for emissions testing or something?

I'm going to remove mine in the next few days; they get in the way a bit when dealing with the valve covers. I'm also going to remove the air pump tubes. I don't need any added difficulty.

I've read the tip that the sampling tubes, at least, can be plugged by inserting a ball bearing in the flare and screwing on the nut. I have a few sizes ready to try. Not sure about the air pump tubes - they're bigger I think.

I had to move mine out of the way to get to one of the bolts. Didn't want to break something potentially important!

the best fix is to spray the B nut with PB bl;aster a few times,
then remove it and wiggle the hose from the fitting,
then install a ball and the B nut that you have freed from the hose.

ok, so now that engine lift bracket is preventing me from removing the driver side cam cover. Do I need to remove the bracket or is there another way?

Loosened the single bolt on the bracket enough to slightly move it out of the way. No problem after that

Up here in the rust belt, most of those tubes rott away by the time the car is 15 years old.

And here is what we expect it to look like when you're done. Hahaha

Hardly!
Very nice!
Not sure if I will powder coat. My original coating is about 95% complete. Might just paint it

An old lug nut also works to cap the port at the exhaust.
