Great day today (so far) ... toured the champagne cellars and connected with some more English-speakers. Saw many GTSs, and a lot of no-sunroof cars also. Three or four cars with factory 'root wood' steering wheels, shift levers and door inserts.
Concours was late this afternoon and also saw the race car that ran in LeMans (I didn't realize a factory team ever ran the 24 heures). Did I mention the silver convertible prototype is here on loan from Porsche Museum? Looks great in person.
Hotel WiFi timed out when I tried uploading pics, will will try again later ...

^^^ Awesome, I read recently of a 928 at Le Mans, apparently the only 928 to ever race at the event, (two years, one Dnf) I read that it was a privateer entry?
Same car?
Same car?

A great big thank you to the Porsche 928 club France and its members who have organized the 40 yr anniversary for the 928. Great hosts! 👍🏼 I am happy to post about the champagne tasting and that my guide for today let me drive his 928 all afternoon 😊🍾🍷 and the really interesting history lesson from Jürgen Barth at our lunch table, (the Porsche factory racer extraordinaire) and all the wonderful people I have met here this weekend. Just a fabulous time here in France 🇫🇷 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you very much again 👍🏼👍🏼

Good to see you again, Tom! And nice to meet you Richard, Samuel, et al.
Although we only stayed for a couple hours, here are some random pictures... The picture of the engine has to be the most detailed car I have ever seen. And the underneath was the same--incredible effort.
As if it couldn't get any better, the Maserati club from Great Britain pulled into the hotel last night. They were in Reims for a couple days having their annual meeting. The GTI was incredible.
Again, nice to meet everyone and great event, Samuel!

Yes, thanks Samuel and all the nice people who put together this event and fed us all that delicious food and champagne!
Here are some of my pictures from the weekend.
First is Johnny from Switzerland, who let me be "co-pilot" in his beautiful iris blue GTS 5-spd for Saturday's champagne country tour. I use the term co-pilot loosely as after the first of those wacky little towns I never again had any idea where we were, only that we were surrounded by a million champagne cellers!
Next is at the lunch stop Saturday. In the picture, from left, are the owner of the Reims Porsche center, Richard (blau928), the fella from Toulouse, France that Richard rode with, and finally, one of the organizers of the event. Sorry I don't recall everyone's names.
Third is part of the historic Reims F1 stands. I think they last raced there in the 1930s?
Fourth is me in my Texas Longhorns shirt going for a ride in the convertible prototype from the museum. Actually, a very short ride ... each evening they towed the car about 200 meters to a garage where they locked it up overnight as they promised Porsche. Still, I'm happy to be one of the few people ever to 'ride' in this car!
Finally, the cellar where we had lunch on Saturday. The big picnic area across the drive was a bit of a mob scene (a 911 group was also on the grounds that day), so a group of us sat down to have our lunch at this table. Then Jurgen Barth walked up and joined us! He told us about an hour of Porsche racing stories and the many personalities involved. It was amazing.

OK, ok, a couple more ...
First is the Mumm cellar, right in Reims, great ambiance down there in the 'historic' section they use for the tour.
Second, the obligatory view of the lot. A bunch of GTSs (I counted 15 at one point) and a lot of no-sunroof cars too.
Third is my rental car ... made me think of Tony C for some reason :-)
And last, the 40 year birthday cake.

My tour guide was Thierry, a really nice gentleman and a car guy to the bone... and he let me drive his 928 all afternoon... such nice people!!
And the stories from Jürgen were pretty neat!!
Thanks again for the rides to and from the hotel!! You have a standing offer to come to California for some hospitality, and if during Monterey Car Week, even better!
