Default Hood magic

What is the magic incantation used to get the hood reinstalled? On the white 82, The PO had loosely bolted it on, I had it off for the repairs, and cannot get it back in place. It wants to go way too low in the back at the cowl, and way too high in the front.....ugh...is there a secret trick?

Thanks in advance.

Also very interested in this answer. Mine is low on the passenger side. I took a first pass at it last weekend to no avail.

to align the hood first a few things.
put some towels on the fenders near the hood hinges

Oil the hinges with some PB blaster then some oil.

NOTE work the hinges so they work smoothly.

Remove the front latch on the hood, 2 10mm nuts
Remove the hood struts from the hood usually a thin screwdriver works.

Close the hood and observe the conditions.

You want to check the front edge and the rear edge lines up with the fenders
also make sure the fender to hood lines are even.

Once you have an idea what you need to do,

Then loosen the hinge screws about 1 turn this will still hold the hood ,
the hinge can be pried with a large flat blade screwdriver that you have wrapped the tip with blue painters tape a few times.

Carefully pry the rear edge of the hood upwards at the hinge to hood area,
test close the hood till you are happy with the seams.

Also set the front hood bumpers so the closing height is flush with the fenders

NOTE make sure to snug the bolts as fitting the struts will move the hood hinge relationship.

Connect the hood struts and recheck your work.

NOTE if you have hatch struts then the hood will be bowed up where the struts attach the hood.
this is not good as the ***** can snap off the hood or the hood can be bent if the wrong struts are fitted

NOTE the hood struts are 35 LBs, the hatch struts are 100 LBs.

Once the hood is closing good, your bolts should be snugged,
then refit the hood latch,
leave the latch nuts about 1 turn loose,

Make sure to oil the pin and spring.

Close the hood and see where the latch is contacting the striker plate,
adjust the latch as necessary.

NOTE the latch should enter the striker plate evenly and centered ,
once this is good then snug the latch nuts,
close the hood and test your work.

NOTE sometimes the latch pin needs some adjustment,
IE if the closing forces the hood to far down then it should be extended,
Make sure to check the 17mm lock nut on the pin.

NOTE carefully close the hood by pressing on the hood badge with the the palm of your hand

Thanks! Just asking for clarity:

"test close the hood till you are happy with the seams.
Connect the hood struts and recheck your work."

Should there be a step "re tighten the hinge screws" before you reconnect the struts?
(again, not disputing, just making sure?)

As AirtekHVAC's had been loosened and yours not, the first thing I would do is lubricate the hinges well before any re-alignement. A good pass with a lithium grease may get you right. I had my passenger side out of the blue sitting a little high, and the lubrication did the trick.

Just in case Stan and Ed did not get the point across: LUBE THE HINGES BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!

I've been struggling as well. I can get my hood aligned properly at each of the corners but I get bowing up in the middle. I removed my hinges and gave them an overhaul and they work smoothly. I followed Dwayne's writeup and followed the tips outlined above. My struts are new from roger and I verified they are 40-lb units. Is the spec really 35-lbs? and would that be causing the bowing? If remove the struts the hood closes flush. Any suggestions?
