Vendors who have done a partial ship, or omitted items from my order:
All of ebay vendors
All of Amazon vendors
Poolpartswerehouse
Rock Auto
Rocky Mtn lumber
Best Buy
Fry's
Prolly some others I forgot. If they don't have it, they don't ship it and they don't bill it. Maybe folks should review the modern concept of JIT. Or, pay Porsche retail for the part.

Right the new model for new auto parts is SELL it BEFORE you buy it and inventory NOTHING . Pelican Parts for example basically has no warehouse relies on multiple daily deliveries from various parts wholesalers. Ever see photos of Roger's huge warehouse ??? I think not no not the one full of 928s !!
Back to 928 International much of the time Tom is the only one there who is answering the phone and taking orders, downloading internet orders so as you might imagine he can get rather busy this time of year with four incoming phone lines ringing ......

Reading Mark's post offering the holiday discount, it's pretty clear that it applies to parts they have on hand.
Consider that 928 International is a recycler of 928 parts, harvested from cars they continue to acquire from insurance auctions, private sales, etc. So their inventory is dynamic, 'new' stuff is coming in while old stuff is going out. For the used parts, it's not like they can just order up your part when they have sold the last one that was on the shelf. Parts are harvested...
Mark has offered the holiday discount for several years now. Sage owners typically build a wish-list of things they want, in advance of the anticipated Thanksgiving start of the sale. On Monday following that start, they open e-mails in the order they were received, and fill those orders with the parts they have available. At some point along the way they might start to run out of popular items, so some requests can't be filled immediately.
I had a short list of wants that I phoned in a couple days into the sale, waiting to make sure that others had first shot at parts they needed. One particular used part was out of stock, and Tom shared that with me on the phone. I asked him to put my request on backorder, and just send one when they have one available. A while later, e-mail from Tom says the part has been shipped. And a day after that, it arrived. Thanks Tom & Mark! Similar results are available to others I suspect.

For the past several years, 928 International has graciously offered a holiday discount on used 928 parts. It's pretty generous in my opinion, but not something that's guaranteed. I have no right to demand or even 'expect' to be able to buy parts at half price at the end of every year. On my office wall is a little saying: "Eighty percent of every job is managing expectations!". So recycled parts inventory fluctuates between supply and demand. Both of those are big variables in that business. Sometimes there's a surge in one without a matching surge in the other. I firmly believe that 928 International would much rather fill every request completely. In the big picture they do an awesome job, and make it at least appear to be practical for me to keep my 928 alive and happy.
Now that you have an idea of how the business is going, why don't you pick up the phone and call them about your part. If they don't have one on the shelf right now, ask they to earmark one for you when one comes in. And apologize for the public berating of their business please. I really would like them to continue offering the holiday discount in the future.
Thanks!

Yup. If he does - let me tell you about this time I bought something during the holiday sale and didn't get the 50% off.
I emailed Mark and he apologized and refunded 50%.
Crazy--right? I mean he had the audacity to apologize and make things right--what gall!

I'm not bashing anyone, simply telling the truth and giving a heads up. I don't know who Mark Anderson is but if he would PM me maybe we could resolve this. If he works for 928 International then maybe Tom should have turned me on to him for resolution as I told Tom I would not be using their company anymore and that I was not happy with their service.
keep calling them to find out when the gas caps are available.

It can be frustrating that the website isn't in sync with the inventory but that's the way it is. I know that and wait to see what is in the response emails. Or I call and ask for the part is really important. Maybe they should have a disclaimer on web orders that used parts may not be in stock and they'll let you know when the order is processed.
That said... I'm a long-term customer and will continue to be!

Some interesting comments and some not so interesting.
I hope I didn't upset any of you as I can see you are very sensitive people.
Take care, Murf

this should not be a negative factor for 928inl, or any of the very few suppliers of 928 parts. its not being sensitive, its you having unrealistic expectations.
when safeway advertises cuties at 50c a pound and i get there and they are all gone, do i give it a second thought? same thing.

Really???
Do right, pick up the phone or better still go their place of business, talk to these passionate 928 business folks and get your parts list sorted.
Sensitive, you may want to look in the mirror on that comment!
