I have a question about clutch/ throwout bearing if you have....chop

Mongo 12-09-2015 05:12 PM

Yes! Now this is a swap I have always wanted to see since the Coyote motor came out!

EDIT: Pic of the Ford 5.0 Coyote

Has _anyone_ ever put a 5.0 Ford motor in a 928? I don't ever recall seeing one. Seems like the distributor might be problematic with the crossbar (?)

Been waitin...

xschop 12-09-2015 06:31 PM

It's already been done a couple times in a 944. I'm working with a guy swapping his into another 944 with custom bell housing and aluminum Torque tube. It fits alot better in a 928, just wasn't sure if anyone has finished a swap.

Mongo 12-09-2015 06:33 PM

XS, do you have any links to pics of these 944 swaps? I saw a thread in the 944 forum here that someone "assumed" the Coyote was too big to transplant in a 944.

xschop 12-09-2015 06:38 PM

There's my friends 1st completed swap on 944Hybrids using the 4.6l mod motor.
He's building another now with the Coyote.

Alot of bad "assumptions" here all the time on renny.

COP makes this a non-issue. Don't know total height. The top-end ventilation and oil carryover issues seem to be solved rather well.

I believe I'd rather have the Coyote engine in its native Ford GT environment, and leave my 928 engine in the 928.

One of the Pelican guys bought a donor Ford and was hot to do it, then the wind shifted and he bought a BMW vert and sold off all the parts and porsche.

I haven't looked at the numbers, but I think the Coyote sits fairly low in the engine bay.

No assumptions here, I simply don't know whether it has been done. I'm first to admit I'm a bit of a 'purist' but that's largely because I'm utterly incapable of doing the fabrication that would be required for such projects. I'd love to experience a lightweight OB with a well executed LSx or Coyote swap. Must be a hoot.

xschop 12-09-2015 07:11 PM

My lightweight LS1 was more than a hoot.

Mongo 12-09-2015 07:27 PM

5.3L Magnacharger blown with LS6 cam, beehive springs and pushrods... done.

That was my thoughts on a sweet trackday setup.

xschop 12-09-2015 07:45 PM

Im not sure if he's a member here, but someone is also turbo'ing a 5.3l and mated it to the Corvette 6 speed in his 928. I built his mounts and swap axles.
The 4 speed auto swap should be nearing completion too.

Mongo 12-10-2015 07:19 PM

Is he on LS1Tech?

Not sure. I should be getting pics of the Full GM with Z06 Auto trans soon.

Meanwhile a little something for the doubters....
