Default S4 versus GTS front lower support

I have an GTS spoiler support on the shelf and see there are differences between it and the used S4 one. Can I use the GTS in lieu of the S4 support on my S4?

Both separate part numbers -----
928 505 059 02 GRV up to 89
928 505 059 03 90+

The spoiler superseded in 90 from 928 505 071 20 to 071 21. The later spoiler fits all years 87+

My gut says it will work.

It will work, the only difference is the newer part allows airflow for the oil cooler under the radiator on the later cars.

If you don't have the external oil cooler, I'd use the earlier -02 duct on the S4 and save the new -03 unit for a 90-95 car.

Well if I had a new one of those I would. At the moment all I have is this newer version. ;-)

Its one of those parts which really should be saved for those builds which really need it since its not easily available. I bet someone is willing to buy it for more than what older style part costs. Though its possible to modify earlier version so that oil cooler gets air through it.

The later part, without the vents and without the external oil cooler, is actually a pretty big air bypass for the radiator. I don't know how big a deal that is, but the factory went to some trouble to seal the other three sides of the radiator (and around the external cooler on the later cars). The early part is also quite a bit stronger.

I guess it depends on what the goal is. As a customer, or a potential buyer, I wouldn't accept it but I am probably in the minority on that.

Holes are basically useless in early S4 as front spoiler do not have holes to feed air into them. Spoiler is also different for cars which have oil cooler.

Later part seems to be cheaper than early part.
