Ferrari owners respect the 928
At least it seems the 928 gets more respect from the Ferrari crowd than from the 911 crowd:

Cool, I was a bit surprised that one of the Ferrari guys said that Porsches are expensive to get serviced and stuff...
At least we don't have to drop the engines to change the belts.

My PO had this 928 as well as a 1986 Testarossa. I have a sneaky feeling he liked the 928 a lot. His last words to me were that he'd like another one. But due to stock market losses he had to sell both.
One has 450 hp, but two inches of clearance. And costs $100k.

I spent quite a bit of time on that site when I was considering a Ferrari. You will find that they are car guys like us and many of them owned Porsches first. They seem to have quite a bit of respect for the marque.
As for service costs, you will notice that most Ferraris are low milage. You will see many for sale around 15 and 30k right before or after the sticker shock from having those major services done. Like us, they do have a few shops around that can do the work other than the dealer but still, $10k is not uncommon for a 15k mile service There is a very good reason I do not own one yet, cost to operate. I much prefer to be able to run the heck out of a Porsche, which is faster than F-car contemporaries, and FAR cheaper to own. Of course, lots of those guys are into the status that goes with the car, rightfully so I think.

Back in 87 when I was 16 my father bought me a 83 928S and it cost in maintenance about $16,000 in two years of ownership but that was including a $5,000 paint job. Then came the 86 carrera in '90 and in '92 my first ferrari a 328gts white / tan and blue interior and in '98 a nsx and '99 a testarossa, out of all the 328 is the most reliable but the 928 was the car in which I was the fastest and most lunatic of all, one of my drives was orlando to bush gardens in tampa in 32 minutes.

Whats up w/ the comment slow and fat?.
Like the infamous "should I race a porsche thread" another fool that doesn't know what he's talking about. The rest of the ferrari owners, seem even keeled and most respectfull towards the two-eight.
Good Read.

335 rearwheel hp, no brake upgrades, no nothing!! faster than the 25 355 ferrari challenge cars that ran there 3 years ago, and out of a 1986 928!!!!!!

he has an S4 stock around 320bhp, then he added the headers which bumped it up to the 335bhp
the difference is bigger valves and a different intake and 2 knock sensors which alow the car to run a more advanced timing curve.

Please help me to understand this.
Is the stock S4 320 hp at the rear wheels? I always thought it was 316hp at the crank. 316 at the crank would probably come out to be something like 270 - 280 at the rear wheels for a 5 sp car wouldn't it?
I'm so confused. Thanks for the clarification.

slow and fat my A$$!!
A few months back - in only my 2nd AX in my A/T, street-tire, 18 year old shark (AND - I hadn't AX'd in over 15 years before I got my 928) - I beat a 308 by almost a second!
Ferrari - pretty to look at FAT SLOPPY PIG on the road race track AND the tight AX course!
