VIN number - Is it a 1978 or 1979?

Looking at a car to buy. The title states it to be a 1978 928. The manufacturing date states that it was produced in October 1978. However, the VIN number 9289XXXXXX states that it is a 1979 model. From a Porsche "pseudo-collector" standpoint, is the car a 1978 or 1979??

1979 model year cars are dated from 9/78 to 7/79 (factory was shut in August).
