A question about efficient PET usage ?
 

Hi !

For the most part, using PET seems pretty simple, I have the Morehouse CD set... but I was wondering if you guys might have some tricks or cheats to help you navigate through PET?

Here's my issue, specifically: I am trying to refresh the engine (less) bay, and I keep running into thing-a-ma-bobs and whooz-a-mah-jigs that I need to identify,
but it seems since PET is arranged by "system",
that you have to already know what it is you are looking at
in order to look it up. LOL

I just hate the thought of posting a bunch of random engine bay photos and saying, "Duhhhh... what is this thing..?"

Any hints?

I think you need to combine the PET images with the relevant repair groups from the WSM. There are also exploded view drawings with numbers pointing to the parts.

You need to be able to think like a "German Engineer" and all of a sudden you find things you could never find before.
When searching for numbers like N 100 184 01 as normal get rid of the spaces but add two spaces between N 10018401.
Look at the bottom of the nomenclature page as often there are parts there that are not shown on the diagram.
Right click to see all Options for that model year, engine & transmission details.
If you are trying to find the size of a bolt or washer (as an example) and the part in the 928 section does not give the detail do a global search on other models and often you will find it in another section.
Remember most seat related parts are located in a separate section STZ below the main menu car models.
