Funny you should bring that up Fogey1... I was recently chastised by a potential buyer for not being "flexible" enough to allow him to take my car on a truck along with my signed title to his preferred mechanic for a PPI... 3 states and 180 miles away.
I am willing to bend over backwards to accomodate a buyer's PPI, but I think he wanted me bent over in the other direction!

Did he want to overpay you by $5K with a cashiers check from the Royal Bank of Benin?

As a former Texas boy, 180 miles ain't a deal breaker.
Outta state? Gets problematical unless you know the bailor.
With a signed title? Hell no, unless you're holding 100% of his cash for your asking price. Trust is as trust does.

Lol!! No... But wait - there's more!!!
I was also supposed to be on the hook for any repair over $100 that HIS mechanic found, to be deducted from the already under-ask starting price.

Well this is little old, Connecticut, so 180 miles gets you out of state and back and there again!
Now to be fair, it was his banker that was supposed to hold the title. While I get to hold...?!?
Exchanges like that are just part of the fun of selling a car...

what about that $5999 car on the list? 5 speed, but needs paint , dash and a good cleaning. $10k of work would make that car a looker!!!! (also needs AC work but includes the parts )
Personaly, i think Robs guess is pretty right 20 to $25K is what its worth, but if he thinks its worth $30k, it better be near perfect, even with low miles.... Lets see some pics!

In Southern California, 928 prices are apparently higher than everywhere else. Cars worth owning come up for sale and they are snatched up. The "market" is a bit crazy, here.
I have a client that just paid 35K for an '87 5 speed.....and was thrilled to get it!
I did a PPI on the car and while it was certainly an above average car, it was not perfect.
In the end, it's all about condition....a near perfect interior makes a car worth another 10K minimum, in my world. Great paint....$7500, minimum. Low mileage with records....another 10K, minimum.
So, a 6K base priced really rough car is suddenly over 30K.....minimum.

As goes California...
Cali seems to be where the Great Classic 911 Market Conflagration began, so I'm inclined to wait for it to spread East. In the meantime, I can replace my door cards, the stupid digital clock that couldn't keep time anyway, blast my suspension hardware, revert mods to stock, etc., and otherwise prepare myself for the rising tide...

Look at it this way....what is the car worth to you? If you pay the asking price you need to ask yourself
if you paid too much or did you buy too soon? As these cars appreciate and if the car is as good as you say
and you want it, then buy it with confidence regardless of the cost. Think of this...how many 5 speed S4's with low mileage like this are out there? Non functioning AC should not be part of the conversation. The car is close to 30 years old and O rings give up, minor leaks, deplete the R12. Just buy it or at least talk the seller down to the asking price...then you will feel much better.

Where is this car? is it the one with the salvage title? I'm interested in taking on projects too.
**** As long as the car doesn't have any rust.

928 "S" Euro for sale
The car is in storage in MA. Nearly perfect condition. I lived in Maryland and brought the car to NE a few years ago. Always garaged or stored properly.
Not a project and zero rust. Complete maintenance history since I have owned it (12+ years). Good luck with your search.
