Sterling, I feel your pain. My situation is far less extreme as I don't have the creative and financial investment that you do but I am at the point of considering cutting my losses also.

My current 928 is sitting in storage in New Zealand. I currently work in Samoa (needed a job and they aren't plentiful in my field) and am moving home to Australia in a month or two. I had everything removed for an intake refresh, opg, etc etc, so the car can't be moved without me going back and finishing it and I don't currently have the resources to do so. On top of that, even if I got it mobile, shipping it home would cost damn near what it is worth....

Sometime life can get unmanageable, for many reasons, and we have to cut away the non-critical stuff and move on.

Whatever anyone does, do not follow in my shoes. Break one, take it apart.......get distracted and buy another. Before you know it one garage has four German cars all in various stages of restoration / repair.

Why I'm about to start pulling the engine on the best running 928 while the rest are still down is quite the mystery, but it made sense when I came up with that plan.

Maybe I should move to SoCal. It would force me to perfect and keep one 928. Until it breaks, then rent a storage unit and start the cycle over.

I am the exact opposite of you, I have spent virtually nothing on my car, but I have spent a lot of time in the rain and snow trying to fix it. You were an inspiration to me because when I saw what you had done I realised that there was no excuse not to get back under the bonnet (hood) and get to work, however cold and damp and miserable it was outside.

That may be of little consolation to you, but I'm sure that you've inspired many other owners as well, whether just trying to keep their cars running, or going down a different road entirely.

How did you even get custom wheels made?

Have tried two times now and both times were a bust. The things aren't round enough to run on a balancer WITHOUT ANY TIRES ON THEM!!!

Is this how the frustration starts?

Sterling you have a beautiful car there but are burned out. Though I'm guessing you're only slightly more than half-serious about burning it to the ground, don't. I can't see any path to long term satisfaction in such an action.

Maybe take a step back, prep and store it out of sight out of mind and set a calendar reminder to revisit it in a year. Use the year to see where life takes you and decide whether this car (or even hobby) makes you happy, whether you miss it, etc. At that point, if you still want her dead, part her and cut your losses while not giving someone the deal of the century on your blood sweat and tears.
