The short answer is no, I've never done this. I did buy a bottle of the Ventil-Sauber motor flush that I intended to run in the GTS when I first bought it, but didn't quite get to the step of being able to use it...

I've used a quart of diesel fuel in the past. That's basically what a lot of the motor flushes consist of.

Made a little progress today, at least on the cosmetic front.

Wheels came back from being stripped, trued, and refinished.

I have also been getting closer to deciding on what to do with the exterior Minerva paint. The initial estimates for a repaint were... staggering. Probably more than twice what the car is worth when it is finished.

We have some more appropriate choices that should still be a wonderful representation of what the car looked when it left the factory. More research to complete, but getting closer.

I must not be perceptive/picky about paint jobs like you guys. I've seen them done for significantly cheaper and they looked good to me.

What is the official color that was decided upon?

How bad is it and is it original?

Nice wheels!

Re the paint, are you leaving toward preservation or restoration?
Lots to consider for either camp. Too much to discuss here.
If you'd like a consult, feel free to contact me. Rob has my number.

Rob, no longer have a source for firewall insulation. Had a NOS source which has dried up.

Hi Jim-

Got it, thanks for the info- will start looking for something that doesn't look like the reflective wrapping on the Lunar Module. I am also toying with taking a heat gun and trying to soften the upper edge of the insulation enough that perhaps it'll straighten out. Maybe I'll practice on a carcass at Mark's so if it catches on fire it won't be in _my_ garage.

Bob, you are missed around here, we could use the extra hands!
I am trying to stick to my budget and keep paint all in under $10k, will see if I have the stamina, lol!

Hi Eric, nice to meet you and Lorelei (sp) over a nice glass of wine. The color is "silbermettalic" according to the guy at the shop whose sole job is vintage Porsche wheels.

The Minerva paint is very bad, but even so I would not be opposed to leaving it if it was original. From what I can tell, it seems only the roof is factory paint (and it is rough) but everything else has either been touched up or resprayed (poorly in some areas). So since so little is original and it looks pretty ghetto, I am 99% decided to have it painted.

Jim, I will take you up on your offer and call you.

If either of you come up with something that is close to original, please let me know, as I will immediately purchase the stuff too. Mine will need to be replaced at some point, as it is drooping far worse than yours Rob.

Was thinking the same. The material looks rubbery enough that if heated slowly enough...a person could manipulate it back into position. My red car has a dip in the same location as #107.

Wheel Repair Specialists, found them online and then before I called them (I had a few names to cover) I received a recommendation.

http://www.ocwheelrepairs.com/

Nice turnaround time, communication (they put up with my OCD), and follow through. Turns out that the machine shop who is doing my '72 Tii motor is close by in addition to a good option for paint. Might be spending more money in Santa Ana, lol!

I just noticed your stable, do you have Dan H's Turq car? That is a stunner!
