Default Any recommendations for a good alarm system? (suitable for a DIY kind of guy)

So anyway, Had the car back from the bodyshop less than a week. Looked like a brand new 928 until this morning. I was really happy to see that some lowlife had jimmied off the nose badge. Can anyone recommend an alarm system which could (maybe) thwart any future incidents?

Thanks.

Motion detecting lights and a camera with a audible warning should do the trick.

If you want something mounted to the car, a viper alarm system with some spacial detectors should work. Although they are annoying when someone walks by and it goes off.

I don't think any alarm would protect you against this. A motion sensor that can detect this would probably go off for light winds or big trucks rolling by too.

A well advertized security dash cam could help - but then the thieving element might just smash a window and steal the dash cam...

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I did figure that there isn't anything I can do to the car that would be any kind of deterrent to this type of thing (short of keeping it without the nose badge). I just thought I'd ask.

I've installed some security lighting. New (used) badge arrived in the mail today from 928int. Better condition than the one that was stolen so every cloud eh?

Move to Texas, get a concealed permit and shoot the next SOB who touches your car.

Just don't miss and hit your shark....

There was a thread ages ago about what guns would fit into the door bin of a 928 - wish I could find it again.

Apparently a full size 1911-style pistol fits fine, but not if it has a Tasco/Aimpoint red dot sight fitted.

More than once I would have felt better while driving if there had been a pistol hidden away in there.

I have found here in Texas that a driver will show much more care around my 82 928 than around my new X5.

They wouldn't dream of putting a car door into the shark, but could care less about denting a 70K BMW.

Maybe they are afraid that I am armed and would flip out if I caught them scratching my door.

sometimes its not just talk though. you can never be too sure what is on the other end. and I wouldn't carry anything not on my person unless it was a spare!

I can guarantee you that if I catch someone vandalizing my car or breaking into my house, I will put a round into them.

That's the thing about Texas that your more liberal states do not have...our citizens will back up their tough talk and protect their property.

I'd bet a Ruger LC9 would fit no problem as well as most of the other small, self-cocking hammerless handguns

Abso****inglutely

And if it's at night time, you get to spend 10 minutes in front of a grand jury who will say "good shoot" and "carry on".
