Yeah , you do miss points by what you say below, its pretty clear... so, step back and think about it for a second, rather than the knee jerk reaction of trying to disagree just to disagree.

we are not agreeing , nor is anyone trying to reduce number of shifts or use the "torque" of the engine... again, the torque of the engine is not the goal to be utilized, its the HP. as you know... acceleration is the rate of change of KE, and that by definition IS HP...... so, we actually want more shifts if possible, but thats not, if we keep with the evenly spaced 928 gear box... so the next goal is to make sure we are in the power band NOT torque band of the engine for the use of the power available and maximize the acceleration potential of the car. I dont have "long gears" we all have widely spaced gears and YOU DONT "GET IT". we want to optimze where those gears can be applied and by the differnet gear boxes, we can optiimes these speed ranges. my gears are perfect at laguna and road america, but if i gained 150hp like anderson, the 2.73 would be better. its all about matching the gears spread with the speed ranges.

and read this carefully too.. I DONT MAKE "GENERIC " statements that the 2.2 is better. i clearly point to the conditions for which is it better. If you were to race me in a car identical to mine with a 2.75, you would be at a disadvantage. if i could grab 50 more hp , the 2.75 might be a little better.
again, it depends. you cant make stupid statements that "1st gear is not desired" the pros run fairly short 1st gears that they use to accelerate from turn 11 all the time. they shift up just at the exit birm end, as do it... in fact, if you look at any of my video vs the top pro production based street cars, mine is very very close. in fact, gear for Gear i was shifting where the C5-c6 corvette was shifting , out of turn 11 and down the main straight to the braking zone. your closed minded approach to looking at this subject matter is not indicative of someone from the racing world.

GREG YOU SAID Mark: I don't "miss points". I'm the one making the "points" up. Everyone here understands that you are trying to eliminate shifts and just use the torque of the engine. You have a tractor with really long gears, for a race car and think that's the "hot" ticket". We all get it. But here you are (again).....trying to make a "law" from one example. Let's say that same slalom course only got to 60mph.....then you would benefit from a shorter ring and pinion, which would allow one to use all of the "shorter resulting gear". And.......almost no one really "wants" to use 1st gear.....the torque multiplication generally upsets the car too badly. Almost everyone would rather be in 2nd gear, even if it meant being slightly of the "power curve" (BTW a shorter ring and pinion would increase the rpms in 2nd gear.) In the end, gearing totally depends on the course and the torque of the engine that you are running (which was my only point). You making generic statements that a 2.20 ring and pinion is better than a 2.75 ring and pinion is absolutely silly.

I hope everyone got the gist of this discussion to walk away with some useful information.

Mark is taking a couple days to cool off, if anyone gang-piles on after him, you can join him.
