Default Coke Car runs Waterford Hills, MI

Yesterday, I needed to get my car tech'd for a DE day tomorrow at Gingerman Raceway in Wastern Michigan (near Chicago) hosted by our local PCA group. I had heard about an open track day at Waterford Hills, our local track, and since I was nearby, I decided to play hooky for the day and have some fun.

Waterford is a very technical track. It's 1.4 miles long and has 8-12 turns depending on who you ask. It has some nice elevation to it. Previously, my best time was 1:33:xx. Because I was driving the car (rather than trailering it) I was on street tires. Continental Extreme Contact DW.

All in all, I was very pleased with myself. I managed a 1:28:xx on several laps. The only problem with an open track day is that you get all kinds of ***-hats out there. Some guys that clearly don't know how to drive and a few that do. There was a guy with a GTR that decided to stop right at the blend line for getting on the track to do a launch! Another guy decided to stop on the track at the start finish ON THE RACE LINE for a photo op. What a dumb fudge!

The Coke car continues to get compliments on how it sounds and how it performs. I continue to improve little by little. Having ABS make a big difference too. I can now brake harder and deeper without total lockup. It can still get squirrelly...

Here's a video of a short 5-lap outing.

Enjoy.

Oh yeah... just before I left an Aventadork showed up with only 200 miles on the car. Guy had no clue how to drive. But holy **** it was fast in the straight sections.

Nice video, AO! What's the data acquisition overlay on the video?

So I use two things. My cell phone with an app called track addict which captures GPS data and video, but the video gets shaky. I also have a "Mini 0803" dash cam (the video you see there) that I got off Amazon fro about $100. The newest model is now called the "Mini 0806". I got the GPS version but the data is a bit sketchy. The best is that it's hardwired in and has a 32GB card (5 hours) so I never have to worry about forgetting to turn it on or running out of space.

So I use the data from the phone and the video from the dashcam, and put them together in an app called RaceRender 3. Pretty easy to use. They have a free version you can play with, but I liked it, so I paid the $30 for the unrestricted version.

Nice driving buddy.

I think the mustang saw you coming and bailed out, fumbling with his turn signals and all.

Default 2016 HPDE season is here!

New season is upon us. Just ran Waterford yesterday. 1st session I was all over the place. Could not put one good turn together. By the 4th session, things were clicking. Got a couple 1:27 laps which is a personal best for me. I know I can carry more speed in certain parts, next time I will be all over that ****!

Enjoy.

Nice session right up until you pulled the parking brake and shut it off. That can burn the pads onto the rotors and create a high spot of uneven pad material. Often you can see the outline of the pad on the face of the rotor from this. Best to chock a wheel to keep it from rolling.

They are Drum, however they will also transfer material, as the rotors are HOT including the hubs.
I use hot glue to hold the center caps in place and found the Hot glue is actually re-melted, even burnt, when checking the wheels and brakes.

Guys, I did not "set" the parking brake. I used it instead of the regular brakes for the final stop. I know about pad transfer, and would never do that.

Anyway, I ran Waterford again yesterday and got into the 1:24's, barely, but still less than a 1:25.

Here are the highlights. (Best to watch it in YT directly)

Or just leave it in gear.
