Also found the sensing bulb on the side had a hole in it...also not supposed to be there...

Hole that is not supposed to be in this little copper tube.

Got it all back in and together, removed the old drier, and installed the new. Pressurized and leak checked, evacuated, and charged up. Took her down the road, nice and cool....43 Deg air temp! Hope it doesn’t leak out again! Woohoo!

Oh, by the way, on the trip to SITM, when in traffic, with the AC on, the car was overheating....enough to trip the warning light....no problems on the open road...so I thought the radiator might be partially plugged....drained it and flushed....fluid was clean, no crud or silt, or anything....weird....I removed the hose going from the radiator to the recovery tank, that runs between the condenser and the radiator, and looked between with a flashlight, and found the problem....there were leaves and pine needles halfway up , essentially blocking 1/2 of the airflow. Slid a framers square in between to push all the crap to the side, and then used my daughters small arm to reach in the side and pull the pile of crap out...problem solved....

Well, after a month of occasional use, the 82 is running really well, but some weird issues have popped up...

drivers window stopped working, worked fine and then will no longer go down.
temperature gauge stopped working, worked fine until this afternoon.
i smell slight oil burning, but see no smoke or oil
slight fuel odor around rear after turning off, not noticeable in cab, no leak at pump
shifter sometimes sticks in gear, sometimes won’t go into gear (both from a stop position), thinking about trying a different gear oil
still hard to get 2nd to engage well
magic blower has returned, I feel like I should be able to convert an inexpensive resistor pack to work...
still haven’t been able to get the voltmeter to work, nor the mpg gauge to work
electric fan won’t come on with AC
Damn drivers floor mat won’t stay clipped down...keeps migrating forward and interfering with the gas pedal movement
turn signal cancel doesn’t work...the tab is there. I disassembled the steering wheel innards when I was fixing the horn...wonder if I put it back together wrong, or misaligned the steering wheel...it is a tad off center

A little bud, had a lot of work crap going on. She has been in storage for a few months. Just got her out this weekend. Had to replace the battery, then drive her around for a while, she’s running good. Have no heat, still have to work on that, also need to figure out why the drivers door window quit.

Biggest problem is the steering rack leaks very badly, and I think I have a front wheel bearing going bad or torque tube bearings failing. Still drives like a raped ape!

My so much has occurred since my last post....work changes, but mostly car changes....had massive failure of steering rack...got a good one from Woody, threw it in and replaced the tie rods and ends....eyeball aligned and drove her to Atlanta for the rendezvous....car made it ok, ac leaking....found a hole in one of the rubber AC lines....noticed the front was sagging....made the drive back...got some used struts from Seth, and put those suckers in a couple weekends ago....she’s riding just right now....in the front, original springs were just worn out....back seems a little low., need to play with adjustments, but I fear they may be worn as well. Lots of problems with the radio, broken vacuum pods, and little things, but getting her dialed in. Replaced drivers side window motor and assembly....played a little with shift linkage and have that working better now.

All in all, this car is coming along and is a blast to drive...I have to drop the AC compressor and pull the line that is leaking, get a new one made...

No rub strips and phone dials, outstanding. I nevery should've sold my Euro with the phone dials attached.
Now, how about a closeup of that quarter-window decal?
