Default Headlight not coming up all the way

I have read all the posts about headlight adjustment that I could find through the search function. None of them actually address the issue I am having.
The headlight pods come up and the lights turn on. They shine the light up high. Then I can manually pull them the rest of the way and they shine the light correctly on the road. But a slight bump jolts them back to the first position. The bar joining both sides does not move when I pull them up. I have tried to adjust the actuator bars to the spline of the motor and that does not help with the slop on the headlight buckets.
I cannot upload a video of what is happening.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying the torsion bar does NOT rotate when you 'pull them up', and how are you pulling them up ? Lifting/'pulling' the pod(s) up or rotating them up via the manual dial on the motor ?

I'm a little confused.
You initially said the headlights shine up high as if there is incomplete rotation of the torsion bar to ON/vertical position. In the video they appear to be in the ON/vertical position, but the drivers side has a little play in it. (1) How did the pod get to the ON/vertical position ? (2) Is this 'play' only on the driver's side ?

The lights get to the up/on position by the motor. And the motor stops at the top of its rotation. However, the lights shine high. By moving them the last 1/2 inch by hand they point perfectly. This happens on both sides identically. I have adjusted the splines from the motor output shaft to the two arms and there is no more top left.
Hope that makes it clear(er).

Pull the headlight relay and clean the contacts. If you feel comfortable with electrical stuff, open the relay and clean the contacts.

Doesn't seem to be an electrical issue. I think there is some adjustment that will make the head not wobble. Will be digging into it further this weekend.

Ok, but just saying, I recently had a headlight issue where they did some funky movements and stopped up, but looking high.
It was only the relay.

The head lights adjustment rods are popping out of the sockets. The sockets have tabs which tend to break.

There is a thread with a fix for this (broken tabs) but I can't find it - Leon do you have a link?

Bilal what was the last thing you fixed?

the video shows you uncoupling the safety catches.
these are made so the lamps will break away from the mount while going down.
so the lamps wont hurt some that might be holding onto them.

That said I had a similar issue with my 88 where the lamps would come up,
then cycle a bit further to aim the lamps upwards just a bit.
I removed the relay and cleaned the contacts,
put deoxit on the contacts after cleaning,
then install the relay no problems since.

I would not be in a hurry to adjust things unless you have been adjusting the lamps.

Just make sure the motor attach bolts are tight on the motor ,
and the torsion bar collar mounting bolts are tight at the fenderwell

Stan,
This is on my 89. The one that had the dent in front and the lights would not go down. The body shop replaced the fender and hood that I got from Hans. Thanks Hans.
They also removed the front bumper and headlight bases to paint everything properly.
So I am thinking they did not tighten something underneath.
I have taken the top cover off and don't see anything lose. Will not be able to get under the car till tomorrow, hopefully.

Interesting... you had work done there.
There is a North-South, and an East-West adjustment bolt-nut for the torsion bar and pod seating. I forget which is which, but one as easy to access at the front of the engine by the ignition controllers along the bar. The other is at the end of the bar along the fender wall under the lip of the front quarter panel. Would be nut (16). It is an 8mm if I remember correctly, and an extension was needed to get to it. If they didn't align and tighten something properly, this would be it. I would first do a complete re-alignment. If this does not solve, then you'd have to get in the wheel well to disassemble the driving arm and swivel plate to replace possible broken small pieces. Remember, do NOT do this by using the motor. If you're out of align the force of the motor is unforgiving. Wind up and down by hand. You can then see the incremental increase to the out of alignment position. Re-align pod/torsion bar first. Then align motor and actuator arms lastly. Make sure everything is tight. Hopefully this fixes, otherwise it is work in the wheel well.

Could it be the relay if it doesn't want to go up but retracts properly? New to me shark where the first few uses it worked fine. Now I have to manually deploy but shuts down properly. PO changed the motor recently.
