Advice on first startup in years. Got running. #73 1979
engine starting at 2:19
The good news is that it started and ran. Probably has good oil pressure. Ran 20 seconds. You saw it with me.
What should be my next steps.
Thanks for any help.

A. The steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car.
B. Less video, more investigation.
C. There is a 14 pin connector on the right side of the engine bay, near the jump post at the edge of the hood line. All your engine gauges go through the connector, and it often suffers. Have a look.
D. Follow the new owners info on cleaning all your grounds first. This will solve multitude issues.

I checked that it had oil and fuel.
I bought the car two weeks ago, the previous owner said he bought it that it ran and he parked it two years ago to restore.
That is all I know about the car.
Thanks

This is what I was hoping for. Great advice.

Grounds. Clean them.

Post 33. Buy De-Ox-It and a few small wire brushes or a small wire wheel on a Dremel.
Do it. Do it now.

The link above is the best place to begin your research. As somebody who bought and slowly rehabbed a 928 in the last 2 years, this is a great place to start. If you can't find it there, ask here. This forum has some of the most knowledgeable 928 fanatics you will find anywhere!
Getting the Jim Moorehouse CD set/PET from Roger at 928srus is another terrific resource on how to fix a 928.
Clean your grounds (emory boards, Deoxit D5 (get a couple cans), and Stabilant). Clean your CE panel and all fuse and relay contacts. Replace your fuses with non Chinese (no Autozone or Pep boys crap) good fuses from one of the major 3 sponsors. Replace every rubber fuel line in the front and back (Greg Brown makes some terrific ones!). Inspect and replace brake lines/pads/rotors/calipers before driving the car. Obviously new plugs, oil (20-50W), battery. Replace the timing belt and water pump (I don't think 79's were interference engines like later models, but since you are in there). Do all these things, then, and only then drive the car.
Getting my barn find back to life took me 18 months and alot of money. But now my 928 is the fastest, best handling car I've ever driven... let alone own. Only a few things will plaster a grin on your face like an entrance ramp to the freeway, shifting out of 3rd gear at 5,000 RPM, and passing 100 MPH like it was nothing....
Oh yeah, Passport Max2 radar detector from Amazon!

- Change the fuel filter
- Replace all rubber fuel lines from the tank to the engine
- Replace fuel inlet adaptor screen (or remove and clean existing adaptor).
- Clean inlet screen on warm-up regulator (don't remove screen to clean, leave it in the WUR).
- Buy a good fuel pressure gauge (no harbor freight, don't scrimp and don't choose to skip this step).
- Cycle flush fuel system using Berrymans (with fuel pump relay jumpered to run fuel pump consistently, relay #17, 9 & 3 o'clock terminals).
- Check fuel system and control pressures.
Use this as a resource: http://928classics.com/4/post/2014/0...ide-78-79.html
- Check condition of the 'green' ignition wire (replace if it is not green)
- Replace spark plugs with Bosch Coppers because it's cheap and easy.
- Replace plug wires if you don't know the age and condition of existing wires.
- Replace vacuum hoses in engine.
- Inspect and clean 14 pin connector.
- Clean grounds, all of them.
- Clean central electrics panel, replace fuses with new.
There's a lot more, but this should keep you busy.
Check back and let us know how you've used our advice.

When I touched it the other day they started creeping out the back. The cover must be here someplace!.... I'll keep an eye on it.
Great suggestion. I would not have stated their. I would have been in schematic LAND,
I'll go start it in a few hours and video the mosquitos and it running longer.

Buy at least a couple of cans of DeOxit. Sounds like you are going to be doing a lot of electrical cleaning / touchup, and it'll be really frustrating if you are mid-project and you run out of the miracle fluid.
