I've ordered a new ignition switch today. No opportunity to check wiggling the key as the engine didnt cut out at all today whilst driving. Let you know whether or not the new switch cures the problem. Expecting it to arrive middle of next week. Thanks for all the help and advice so far.

That's good that you have a new ignition switch coming. I like to keep two working switches on hand. I've had several fail and it may be the culprit on your car.

How often does this problem occur? If the new switch doesn't fix it, then you need to start it up and watch your power at the jump post with a voltmeter until the issue reoccurs. Regardless of ignition switch position, you should always have 12V at the jump post.

This must be a nuisance and would drive me up a wall. Let's hope the new switch does the trick.

Fitted the new ignition switch and then went for a 150 mile drive. No problems at all, so looks like I have a cure. Will post again if any further pain, but right now, I'm feeling very confident. Huge thanks to everyone who offered help.
