I did this to my RS2 heading from Mtl to Spokane. Great idea, until it rained. It took forever to take off the glue after it flapped in the wind, like a sail. Never again

We are working on some new routes - one group will be driving only and the other groups will include various stops for lunch and other entertaining venues.

Patrick Hall (aka "Patman") is donating some very nice Snap-on tools (very expensive looking electronic diagnostic modules) that will be auctioned to cover some of the event costs.

Default Fun Route

So here is the preliminary fun cruise route, not the light your hair on fire and drive route ha!

This should be a really cool cruise, with our lunch stop at the Oasis overlooking Lake Travis. I was given three or four places to go to, so I did the best I could planning a route on decent roads while hitting all the places.

The traffic could be heavy on our way out from lunch (the Blue section on the attached map), so I have included a re-group spot at the gas station that we always stop at during our first leg of the previous group tours. Just use your phone or GPS unit to get there. That way we don't have to endanger anybody trying to pull over and wait for everybody that gets stuck at all the stop lights through this area. All of the addresses to our stops will be on the driving directions.

Also, the route is about 165 miles, which is about 40-50 shorter than years past, but with four places to stop, and with lunch at the Oasis that will more than likely be lengthy, it should work out well.

If time permits, we can take several back roads after our last stop at Arc de Texas in lieu of just driving due North back to the hotel.

Great Job Mike - once Laura gets the registration going we can define who is going on which tour and split into groups accordingly.
The other choice will be a "Drivers" tour on a new route. Limited stops - pee breaks and maybe lunch.

I plan on taking the turbo car this year, so the driving (in my group) will be brisk, but not "double plus five" brisk!!

Depending on the numbers for the "drive" tour and "fun" tour, the latter might be able to just stay in one group.

We will nail all that down a few days before the event after EVERYBODY has registered and picked what driving group you wish to be with. Laura said she will put a CHECK BOX on the form for this.

Please make sure to pick what group you want to be in when you register. This will really help us let all the places we are stopping at know what to expect, and have staff there to accommodate us.

Well Thank God!

Mike, I know how much time you spend plotting and routing these drives. I have heard from different people that we have among the best overall drives of all the GTGs.

We have you to thank for the routes and God to thank for the scenery.

Thank you both!

After one trip as the Caboose years ago, and not knowing where the hell I was going the entire day, I plan the routes just so I can know where the freak to turn!!

Thanks for the kudos DK

I was ready for some different scenery this year, and this drive should be awesome despite the possible heavy traffic as we get close to Austin for lunch at the Oasis.

Mike,

Sorry I'm going to miss the new route this year. When Donald and I planned the drive several years ago, we headed east out of Marble Falls as well and there was a water crossing somewhere in that area. I didn't mind it, and it would probably be low or non-existent right now anyway, but just a heads up. The roads were a lot of run in that area. You'll definitely hit a lot of traffic and red lights on 620 heading south from the Oasis, but it should be manageable.

Beautiful Route - I'm calling that Route "The Queens Crown" /Flip it 90degree left/.

The road to the Oasis is a Nail Biter going from West to East cause it's a very twisty road and you're on the outside lane on the side of the Cliffs. I'm the 928 drivers will love it, me not so much. But once you get there the View from the Oasis is awesome. And we have our own private deck for lunch.

Looks like loads of fun; unfortunately, other higher priority events prevent my participation. Hope to join in again next year!
