Default 84 928 s won't start

Hi all need some help with a fuel issue. Replace my fuel pump and the car ran last year. Now no start. I have spark and the car starts with starting fluid. However, no power at the fuel pump when I turn it over.

The relay is good, and I also tried a jumper between 30 and 87 and I have 12 Volts out of the relay. I show the fuse as 22 but there is no wire on the top just 12 Volts coming in so I thought that may not be the correct one...

Any ideas?

Thank you

According to the owners manual, fuse 22 is for the fuel pumps. So, could the wire have fallen off the back side of the CE panel?

When you jump the relay, do you get power to the fuel pump? What about running a temporary wire back there, just to see if the pump is still working. Seems weird that you parked it and it ran...and now it doesn't. Unless a mouse or something chewed up some wiring. Should be a relativity easy problem to solve.

Good luck,

Brian.

jumper the fuel pump and see if it starts. if you have spark , it will.

check connection of the Ljet box

temp II will cause it not to start.
check the resistance at that vs the spec. its something like 300ohm when cold and 1000 ohms when hot. I cant remember, but that will certainly not let it start

Tried running 12 volts to the pump from a battery and it wouldn't start the car, I fugured it was an ecu problem. When I jumped the relay I still didn't get power. That made think it was a broken wire, but it is in conduit hard to see how it got broken. I'll check the Temp II.

So, could you hear the pump running when you ran the 12 volts to it?

I hope this works, but here is a wiring diagram I found online. Pretty blurry and it's for a 83, but with a good magnifying glass you can make things out and it is the same as a 84 from what i have read.

You never did mention if your wiring was messed up on the backside of the CE panel...and why fuse 22 didn't have a connection on it.

Where are you located, maybe someone close by, with 928 experence, could lean you a hand.

Good luck,

Brian.

Thanks Brian, yes the pump ran when I put 12 Volts to it. The wiring looks good on the panel I couldn't find any unplugged wires. Fuse 22 has a connection on the bottom which I thought was 12 volts in, but not on the top side. However, I have power from the relay. I am in Grand Rapids Michigan.

Thanks,

Nick

Have you jumpered the alarm/disabler?

Are two cam cover ground points polished clean? one of them is pretty well hidden, under the airpump valve, which must be removed for access.

Yeah, I'd second the ground cleaning theory. I'd probably pull the air cleaner/mass airflow sensor and look around under there for any destroyed wiring. It's strange that you don't have power to the fuel pump, unless you jumper power there. I guess if you can hear the fuel pump running, while jumpered, and you have spark and it still won't start. Next step would be to see if the injectors are firing off when called upon.

You say it runs on ether, and basically you are replacing the supply of gas with ether through the air cleaner housing...so I'd think you have to concentrate on the fuel issue.

Good luck, wish I was closer. I'm on the east side, Port Huron area, so I'm four hours away.

Check the injection relay - I think that it is XVI. Try jumpering it...

If you use a stethoscope / rubber hose you should be able to hear the injectors click while the engine is spinning.
