Default WTT early 928 for my '85

Had a thread already but it was more information gathering on the idea than a real WTT thread.

Posted a ton of pics here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...lder-ob-2.html

Info on the car:
Whats been done under my ownership over the past 18 months:
Timing belt
water pump
injectors cleaned and balanced by witchhunter
new distributors
new spark plugs
new ignition wires
new shocks front and rear
reconditioned gauge cluster by palo alto speedometer (oil pressure and volts were non functional.)
new fuel regulator
new vacuum lines
all new engine bay fuel lines
new windshield
fixed seat switches
changed transaxle fluid
new brake fluid
new coolant
new hatch receiver
cdr220 with aux input
replaced steering wheel for cosmetic reasons with another 4 spoke
new tps harness
new MAF
new O2 sensor
new cps
painted the intake during the full intake refresh
replaced fan clutch with a used one from 928 intl.
Added a vdo temp gauge to replace the stock one in the cluster. wanted one that wasnt vague and had actual measurements. also has a vdo sender that matches the new gauge in place of the stock vdo sender.
new idle stabilizer valve
probably more that i can't remember. I refuse to count what I've spent. Roger has an idea im sure...

Car is a black on black 5 speed with 79000 miles and counting. I bought hood insulation but never got around to removing the hood to install. Some of you might have seen a thread on having an issue with hesitation and cold start problems. this has been resolved with the 02 sensors and a new maf. After installing a lot of other sensors and things it didnt need! The car is in good shape except where noted:

theres some cracking of the paint around the headlight openings
the drivers seat has a worn bolster
the ac doesnt work
as noted, the temp gauge is disconnected in favor or a more accurate vdo gauge. it worked intermittently anyways
dash is in pretty bad shape. Ive got a plastic dash cover on there now that looks ok.
interior lights do not work.

Im not against selling outright but would prefer a trade so Im not sharkless! I'd be looking for trade plus cash unless its condition/maintenance are excellent and/or has some neat options. Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the link! While those are amazing, a bit out of my budget.

Honestly, Im not too picky. Must be a 5 speed and decent cosmetically. Any combination of exterior and interior is fine as well.

What attracts me is the lighter weight, cleaner lines, being one of the first few years of production, non-interference engine, and the possibility of some fun color combinations. And I may have missed the boat on this last one, but until recently seemed to be undesired and cheaper than others. I figured selling my '85 5 speed would get me a nice OB with money left over for a little maintenance if needed.

Not so much anymore. The early ones have caught the wave, and have risen rapidly in price. Deals are still out there, but the ones that don't need much are in the range of what Tony linked to above. You can get a "cheap" one still, but it will cost a great deal to bring it up to respectability. For what you said you are looking for, I'd budget $20K plus.

I've been finding this out over the last 6 months. I may have locked myself out of 928 ownership having sold my '85. But I'll still be on the lookout for a decent OB in my range. Im not afraid of deferred maintenance, its just cosmetic stuff I don't want to deal with.

Nice 81 with no rub strips in Atlanta. This one made the trip from Memphis to Florida to Sharks in the Mountains without any hiccups. Call shop for pictures. Garage 928 1770-408-5203

Priced similar to your 85

Just curious on what you sold your 85 for. That's OK if you don't want to post. But, it will give us 85 w/ 5 speed owners some idea of their worth.

no problem, sold it for 11,750. Keep in mind mine had a title issue. The car was stolen in the 80s and because the insurance company paid out to the owner, it was a "loss". Later the car was recovered and given a clean title but the history is there. Its on a boat to Germany this very moment.

I bought the 85 a few days ago.
You did a lot of maintenance Sydneyman. I´m pleased to find such good base for my garage.
I`m thinking about what to do with it. Bought an 11/30 Pinion and ring set for the transmission!
The hull of the car isn t straight. Maybe from the stolen time back in the 80s.

So, it`s a keeper or a partscar for my other puzzles? We will see.

Have fun with your 78 OB.
Do you know if the 85 has LSD? You can feel it in the corners.
