Secret road
Every 928 owner has a secret road. A place where there is no traffic, nothing around and lots of room to zoom. I've found mine..... And I'm not talkin. Of course if you wanna twist my Arm and go for a drive some Sunday I'll take you there.

Part of the Angeles Crest Highway drive just northeast of the city includes a very seldom-used and seldom-patrolled (during the week especially) bypass on Upper Big Tijunga Canyon Road. Several easy long straights, and some sections that are plenty of fun at just baely super-legal speeds. Drive it uphill from Angeles Forest towards Angeles Crest for more throttle and less braking needed.

Highway 128, try and find it. Lots of altitude changes, tons of banked turns, and it is very scenic as a good portion of it goes around a large lake. Plus it starts about 3 miles from where I live.
Plus it is hardly used, but I had to use it recently to get to highway 80 as 29 was stop and go past Napa. Lets just say going 100+ on some parts is easy and cruising at 60 even more so.

There are certainly some gems in the various places around Cali. The road from King City into the east end of the Carmel Valley and the Monterey peninsula area jumps to mind. I'd recommend driving it slowly the first time, as there are some very square corners dropped into odd places.
The road from Healdsburg to the coast along the Russian River is a treat too, just don't take a passenger who has even the most remote problem with motion sickness.

Anything similar around Chicago, though, is hours away. Which is why I traded out of my go-kart-ish handlers for cars that can soak up the long, straight, and flat midwestern miles.

I'm not talking about a curvy road. I'm talking about a straight road with nothing around just air to suck into the cylinders and asphalt to blast out the tailpipe. A perfect road has no cross streets and no exits. It's miles from everything. I lived in Michigan for years and knew all these roads. I'm just finding them here. I know a few curvy fun mountain rides in my area. And I've learned the fun highway blast zones. But the perfect is not just a place it's a time. In our build till there is no room society such places don't last. But I found one. I only hope it lasts for a while.

I lived in SW Montana for about 4 years, you had to look pretty hard to NOT find a perfect road. You like straight and empty, plenty of that; you like twisty and elevation changes, yep; panaramic views that'll make you weep they are so beautiful - right on. The only negative thing was the short driving season. Pretty much mid-May at the earliest, until Mid-October. Frankly not much shorter than here in w PA.
We have a few good secret roads here too, however.

Sounds like a great opportunity for a local get together. Maybe we can twist a few arms and get a group to go

If done a lot of trips up up the Scottish Highlands and Islands and some great roads and scenery. Skye, Mull, glencoe, Applecross, Ullapool to name a few. Still a lot of single track roads up there with passing places. Can't get too excited on some of them as you have to dodge the occasional camper van coming towards you.
