Interior looks interesting. Needs TLC, for sure!

IMO they are all worth saving if the chassis is straight.

The real question is, can you afford to save it?

I suspect it's like any other, with the little parts eating away at one's budget. Perhaps given the scale of economy for just purchasing one done, or a nice driver, it isn't worthwhile, but found the ad interesting, nonetheless.

"Needs fuel pump, paint, small repairs."

I was unaware that a full restoration was considered a "small repair."

There is a complete "language" that has developed for Craigslist...where words have alternative meanings. Anytime is says "straight body" means the paint is shot !! . A/C "needs charge" means has not worked for years and have no idea why..." Needs fuel pump" means it stopped running but have no clue why and am too cheap to take it to a mechanic or spend a couple hundred for a pump and the 20 minutes to put in a pump.
Love it when an add says used to run great or "ran when parked" again no clue why it will not run today. And of course the fuel in the gas tank has turned to Jell-o , the mice or squirrels have nibbled on the wiring and the sun has been beating into the interior for years..
Buying a car which does not run, which you cannot drive, is rarely a good idea unless you get really, really lucky especially with a 928.
Frankly my oft repeated comment about a neglected 928 being $10,000 away from being a $5,000 car more accurately is probably now $20,000 away from being a $5,000 car given the increase in new parts costs , the limited number of nice used interior parts available , and increases in labor rates and the problems of parts no longer being available.
Worth saving implies that it is a financial decision .....trust me it is NOT

You could drop $15000 into this car very easily and very quickly. Even more if you have no mechanical ability.

IF the engine doesn't need major work, which you won't know until you get it running, then it will most likely need a WP/TB/tensioner rebuild, top end refresh, new fuel lines, ignition items, etc.

Hopefully the head gaskets aren't leaky, your oil pan gasket isn't seeping and you have a near normal compression/leak down check.

Who knows if the clutch and torque tube are serviceable and the gear box synchos may be toast and that is not cheap.

Then there is a potentially leaky steering rack, new PS lines, shocks, tie rods, brakes, AC system, interior, all sorts and variations of electrical gremlins, upgraded wheels/tires, etc, etc.

Let's not forget a paint job. Uber expensive for a down to the metal, windows out re spray.

The point I am making is that unless you are looking for a long term project that will ending up costing way more than you will plan for, buy the best sorted and visually pleasing example that you can afford.

I know all of the above by personal experience.

on the other hand for $1200-1,500 you could "own" a Porsche.....get the Porsche key fob and keep the Porsche key and the key for your daily driver together.. Always good for conversation when you put your keys on the bar while you have a drink Starts out when someone asks about "your Porsche"...you then get to explain well no it is NOT a 911 nor a 944 but the big one the V-8 supercar the flagship model, the most expensive one ....... the one with the flounder headlights...and no it is at home (where it has been for 5 years since you had it towed there).

Maybe the key fob is $1800 and the car is $60.

Good one....

Frankly I think your comments do dis service to the 928 community. For the most part I think the guys that are buying 928's are looking for a project cars, something they can wrench on. And with a little effort in researching, parts can be had for penny's on the dollar. Your local pick-a-part can be a valuable source or you can find guys parting cars on Craigslist. Moreover, I see the prices steadily climbing even on project cars. I'm in my second 928, first was bought for $700 (2013)running , second one was non-running purchased for 500 (2014). I don't think I can find similar deals in 2015. I think it's great guys are wanting to buy 928's, considering 911's and some 914's prices are going thru the roof and unaffordable for the average Joe. We need more 928's on the road, so people can stop asking me if its (my 928) the scarface car ?

Worth it for the phone alone!

Seriously, I wish I could find something like this around here. Would be a nice garage toy.

Financial reward=0
