Ah nice, I just assumed it was the same pistons from the CIS 4.7L cars.

Is there a factory document which outlines the difference in the M151 pistons? Or is it just one of those things you have to find out by looking at engine internals?

PET shows part number and there is some very bad quality picture in some factory document scan PDF which sort of show piston top. Only piston is changed. Heads etc are all same stuff as in 310hp version. Besides of CR difference 275hp they have comes from more conservative ignition timing.

Very interesting thread!

I think you are just about 100% spot on Hilton.

My only comment would be re 'condition'... Body paint & most mechanical problems I think are fixable provided you have the $$$. What really interests me at the moment are the cars with original interiors.

I'd personally prefer an early or late car with a really good interior over anything else.

Yes you can reupholster the seats & repair the dashboards, maybe... But what about the other trims (roof trims, door trims etc.. ) how can these be brought back to 'factory original'??? & if they can't then the long term value of the car has to be somewhat limited?

I think the air-cooled 911s have it easier with their simple interiors, making them easier to restore?

Just my thoughts. Certainly not an expert...

Correct the simple early 911 interior is way easier to "restore" .... but the one thing you cannot "restore" is the odometer way too much information on line...

Is that a compliment? Copying my post #4 or is it a cry for help from a sad individal sitting home alone on a Friday night without friends or family?

Have a nice weekend buddy and cheer up springtime is here soon!

1995 Porsche 928 GTS auto. 42000 miles. All original except timing belt, fuel lines and other routine maintenance items.

$100,000.00 (if I were to sell it)

The cashmere one went for $17,700. VIN 9288200402 with 69500 miles on it.

Nice data point - this one will likely do well on future value changes IMO. Interesting that it has the early-style dash/door vents and a production month of 1/78.

Here's some pics from its advert for future reference:
