At a sales price of 15K the buyer is not getting any TV time..cars that sell in the low teens go off before live TV coverage. The advantage the seller has at this type of auction. Is buyers with cash in hand snd ready to buy. I say the prices have been climbing for the past two years.

Are the S3s considered more valuable than the S4s? I suspect they are much more rare, and they have most of the performance advantages of the S4s.

All things being equal, an 86.5 would have sold for more money.
All things being equal, an S4 would have sold for even more money.
All things being equal, an S4 5-speed would have sold more money yet.
All things being equal, if it were a GT Rob would have bought it for the value of a kidney.
All things being equal, if it were a GTS, Rob would have sold Mark Anderson's kidney and his left nut to buy it.
All things being equal, if it were a GTS 5-speed.......It pains me to think what organs him and Mark would now be missing.

Who knows, maybe the guy who bought it graduated in 85 and always wanted a 928 from that year.

Maybe his wife was drunk and said: "I want that!!!" so he kept bidding.

Maybe he was drunk and thought it was a Camaro.

We will never know unless he joins up and tells the tale.

Not in my experience. S3's are usually only more desirable to the (small) subset who prefer the old body style but with the 32V engine. But prices are almost always lower than S4s.

Same thing I did. If I picked up a steal at $8K, I know I'd put that much into getting it to the condition my car is in. The real problem is buyer trust; I'd have a lot of trouble spending $15K on a great looking '85 garage queen with under 80K miles just because I've had one for 30 years and I already know what can happen to them just sitting in a garage. Unless you're buying from an enthusiast with baked in grease under his fingernails, you never know what you're getting and should plan for the worst case.

So I insure mine (agreed value, Leland West) for $15K. What else can you do?

But, the S3 body was the ultimate 928. Someone should be taken out and hung for what Porsche did to the S4 body. And the intake? Criminal...

Hey, I didn't start it, I just agreed. If you like the S4 body that's your business. I happen to think the S3 was the final 928, I also love the body styles of the S1 & 2, but I prefer a higher performance engine.

I can suggest places the glue might be more effective if you like

I have a 79, 81 with spoilers and an 87.

I have no preference....

And let's face it; the S4 looks like an AMC Gremlin on steroids.

Just to add context, I happen to be of the opinion that the 1986 930 was the penultimate derivative of the 911 line; no 911 derivation after that car is worth the time of day. The car was absolutely beautiful in the metallic Anthracite Black. Stunning. There was never a more gorgeous 911 manufactured. I don't care for the GT3s, they remind me of the Citroen Maserati, an armored slug in my aesthetic opinion.

Let's get out the Scotch and see who goes under the table first...

Never thought I would see the day when the 928 got.thrown under the bus here on it's own forum. Usually plenty of trash sewn elsewhere on RL.

Can we all assume you prefer the S4 body style over the original? Take a side? I don't think the 928 was being thrown under the bus, Hacker claimed the S4 would always be more valuable than the S3. I happen to disagree.

Where do you stand exactly?
