Default Steering wheel wobbles

My steering wheel wobbles a bit on the shaft. As it is bolted on correctly, my guess is it is a shim of some sort that has failed. Any ideas on the part I may need?

Thanks,

Chris

Another sign of bad steering shaft bearings is the horn sounding on turns as well as the signal light not auto canceling.

Replacement bearings are relatively inexpensive and replacement takes only a couple hours.

Thanks again Randy and James . . .

I did have the symptom of the horn sounding occasionally on turns. My car cleverly healed itself by shedding the metal horn contact on the turn signal switch. I'll need to replace the switch when I do the bearing!

right when the bearing fails the wheel is pulled forward drops down and it grinds away the L shaped horn contact mounted to the turn signal switch...

Good job, Chris - feels good doing your own successful repair, doesn't it.

Randy,

That's what is so great about this forum. Get a few tips from folks, do a little searching, and you can feel comfortable making (most of) the repairs.

Thanks again to you and James for the advice!

You forgot the cussing and massive alchohol consumption.

Hi, am resurrecting this thread because I too have a ghost in my steering wheel '(86 928), it has play in it (and down). I've read this thread and a few others and only found the enclosed part, identified as a bushing. other posters talk about needing to replace the bearing, yet Pelican only shows this part. I've not seen any 'bearing' on any of the parts sites. I'm a lousy DIY guy but am trying to do at least some of the to-do items on the car, but this task has worked its way to the top of the list. Any input? Many thanks, btw, first time poster :-I
