1988 928S4: clutch pedal "take-up" adjustment?
Hi, all,
It's my first post here, be gentle. I adopted an '88 928 S4 and am now going over the car. I am sure I will be asking many more questions...
This one is about clutch pedal travel. I searched here, but the posts I found were about clutch not disconnecting fully with pedal fully depressed.
I have the opposite problem: the clutch disengages right away, with minimal pedal movement. This means that my foot is high at this point - something I am not used to. Also, this means that when moving from standing still, I have to release the pedal from the floor all the way to top, which feels like the car is held by a brake.
Is this normal? Is there a way to adjust clutch mechanism to bring engagement/disengagement lower into pedal travel?
TIA.

it will be easier to do this job if you first remove the parcel tray from the driverside.
Then under the dash find the clutch pedal pushrod .
without touching the pedal see if the rod has any side to side play .
Then push the pedal down till you feel the pistton start moving, if your not sure then peel the boot off the MC and watch the pushrod push the piston.
NOTE what has to happen is that the rod has to have a small amount of play ( 2MM at the pedal) this will let the piston come back in its bore all the way,
If you dont have any play then you will need to loosen the locknut and spin the rod into the clevis.
NOTE inspect the clevis and the pivot pin, if they are worn now is a good time to install new parts.
NOTE if after making the adjustment your pedal is still high then your probably going to be replacing the clutch as its worn
