Installed a new battery this evening and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree - good sign.
Pulled the fuel level sender and inspected the tank with a flash light - where's a torch when you need one!!! Tank was super clean with a thimble full of fuel in the bottom. Someone did a great job of syphoning the gas. Strainer looked new.
Added 3 gallons of fresh gas and turned the key. Car turned over nicely - however no starty!
About a gallon of gas on the floor under the pump area - not good.
Sooooo - the S shaped hard line between the pump and filter had been cut and rejoined using rubber hose with no clamps - hence major leak point.
New pump, S pipe, filter and tank to pump hose next on the list.
I have positive thoughts that this baby is going to fire right up and be terrorizing the streets of Double Oak this weekend - fingers crossed.

So the VIN lists the engine as M28/21 which is a manual so maybe your right.
At long last someone else who speaks my language - lets swap all those crap stick shifts for superior Roger Boxes.
I will check the numbers on the engine and GB tomorrow.

Either database is wrong or it's been changed at the last minute at the factory ?? .... interesting to see actual engine and gearbox numbers. I haven't seen that sort of conflicting transmission information in a VIN search before.

Why would some lunatic change a perfectly good manual gearbox for a slushbox ??

There's only about 100 total things that can go wrong on a 356 and early 911. There is more than 100 things that can go wrong on a 928 just at the Central Fuse Panel!!

Given the mileage, there's a good chance this could be the 2nd, 3rd...drivetrain.

I'd like a list of 'Most Common Reasons Your Shark Won't Start'. Very helpful for compleat maroons (like me) and for those looking at a dead Shark that's been parked for ten years with 'a bad fuel pump'.

Speaking of looking at dead Sharks: how about a step-by-step checklist with helpful illustrations of the things to look at and for when looking at those dead Sharks.

And, while I'm on a roll, a list of projects for that newly acquired, formerly dead Shark, in order of importance, to bring it back to life without a fire.

I know all of this information exists here (and elsewhere), but it can be hard for the aforementioned 'compleat maroon' (like me) to sort through it.

This is something that could be done in bits and pieces at gatherings like Frenzy. For instance: Frenzy 14 could take on 'Inspecting an OB for purchase', and Sharktoberfest could go after 'My S4 won't start'.

Just a thought (or two)...

Interesting one. I just bought WP0ZZZ92ZGS840076 a couple of weeks ago, guess they were some months from each other in production line? Anyway they have lived very different lives. Mine has exacly 10% of your mileage Roger, 81000km.

Hey Roger... What a project.

As voice of experience... Check the condition of the Twin Dizzy belt drive in the distributor before you start. If that thing goes, you'll be parting it out. One bolt and the dizzy is out. two more bolts and you can open it and see the condition. Pay attention to the rotor position before you remove it, however, so you can put it back in the same position afterward.

Thnkng back to those early daze and my 356... I didn't have wiring diagrams, so I started drawing one based on what I though the car would need. Then started looking at the car, and for the most part just needed to add the wire colors to my sketch. Gotta wonder how a car could possible run with only eight fuses and two carburetors (and four cylinders...)
