Supporting car for motor mounts job
Wanted to make a start on motor mounts today, so I put my S4 auto on ramps so that I could take belly pan off preparatory to draining oil, and have her as high as possible at front.
I understand wheels must be off, so I wanted to support on axle stands while I lowered the ramps leaving wheels in the air (already loosened lug nuts).
Problem is the ramps get in way of using stand to support front jacking points. I sometimes use stands at the "skids" of tow hook, but I'm following Dwayne's and John Pirtle's motor mounts procedure, and at some point the tow hooks have to hang free so I can't use axle stands there either! My other preferred front jacking point when undertray off is centre of steering rack using piece of wood over that hole, but I need to lower the rack.
Please does anyone have advice for safe and efficient way round this?
Thanks,
Adrian

You can jack the front up each side by the suspension bracket (directly lifting the frame - by what I think you mean are the "skids") from the front, and stick a jack stand under each front jack point. Then jack up the rear by the crossmember (needs a long low jack).

Thanks Hilton and great photo of underside of your car.
I'll check my jack can reach those front suspension brackets - the adjustable ramps lift her pretty high and I wanted the height so I'd have enough room and leverage for any of the tougher parts of job.
