Matching numbers or not ?
Hi!
I was looking at my car's numbers... 92 gts.
VIN is wpo... 800653.
Engine number is 85n00667.
Should be 85n 00653, like last 3 digits of the vin. Or not?
Francesco
Ps :no, I have not better way to spend my time today...I am curious...

VIN range has both manual and automatic cars in same sequence. Manual and automatic engines have their own sequences. In this case VIN started from 0061 while manual engines from 00501. So they are nowhere near each other even though numbers are close. What they tell is very rough ratio for manual vs automatic gearbox cars made. Out of around 600 cars made 150 were 5sp. If it were automatic engine number would be something like 05500 as automatic engines started from 05001. There is also additional problem of ROW and US models having separate VIN sets but shared engine number sets for both manual and automatic engines. Since options are known we have much more precise info and estimates like that are no longer needed.
