First check should be for debris near the hinges where water can collect and go over the seal. If you find debris then clear it first and see if it still leaks. You can usually clear any debris with a weed eater cord section. Tie a knot or two in one end. Thread the unknotted end thru the hinge gap and pull it out so the knot pulls clear any debris.

Update: Cleaned the seal yesterday morning and found a few rips under all that crud. I used some Crazy Glue to patch the rips and let dry a short time in the sun. Unfortunately, the clouds rolled in so I decided to put the seal in a pillowcase and stick it in the dryer for 15 minutes. I then decided to dry fit it back on the car to see if it gained its original shape back and formed a seal with the lid. I tested it with a hose and then drove the car around in torrential downpours for 4 hours while looking for Hondabond. Not a drop came through. Resorted to ordering the Hondabond from eBay. Should be here this week.

Hose tested the car again this morning and still managed to keep the water out. As soon as the Hondabond comes, I will pull the seal off and reinstall. Thanks again Stan for the help.

IDK how to get this posted to the tips thread, but it could be.

If you look at your seal you will find a white powder inside the seal groove,
this was a factory sealant that was part of the seal,
since its 20 some years old it has dried out,
new HB4 should make the seal watertite again

Noticed the white powder and also black sealant of some kind. Ordered the Hondabond from someone in PA so hopefully should be here before next weekend.

Will put the $$ I would have spent on a new seal into my x-pipe fund. Thanks again for your help.

Mr Merlin.

This is the source of my leak on my 90S4. The center top is deformed and lets water run over the seal. The seal has no cuts or rips and is soft.

Can this seal be saved and how? I have a new seal at the ready if needed.

Although I sold the car a year ago, the fix worked for me. No more leaks.

Kevin in my instructions I suggested to rub the DC111 on the external areas of the seal, this will give the seal new life ,
if that wont work then install a new seal

Thanks, Stan I may try that. I replaced the malformed one with a new one yesterday. Glad to report no leaks.
