bcdavis is on the right track. Haven't used the brackets myself. 928 Intl has them too. As of now they've been offered for OB-to-S4 upgrades.
As for a full S4 swap, that's a lot of money and effort for better brakes. An easier path would be getting the pre-"S" spindles and mounting the S4 brakes with adaptors offered by some of The Three.
Easier yet, get better brake pads. I use Hawk HP Plus on track and street. Dustier than stock, but a lot better whoa power.

Also note that if you go the adaptor plate route, you will need a custom 2-piece rotor & hat. I believe they are much more expensive than s4 rotors.
Also you would not be able to (future) upgrade to the GTS/993 brakes.
I'm going to do the s4 swap. Reasons stated above, and others: I want to completely refresh my from end, good time to do it. I don't like the idea of a bolt-on adaptor in a high stress area.
You could save some money by not upgrading the rear brakes. I don't believe there are substantial gain on doing so (for street applications). You will get more out of good pad selection.
Gook luck, let me know if you have any questions as this will be my winter project. I'm sure I will have many tech questions then.
