High HC and high nox, means air leak or dirty injectors to me. Do you have a factory cat?

I would not start with a new factory cat, no point in fouling it up before you get HC and Nox closer to what they should be, but once that is "ok" the new cat will seal the deal.

Temp near the second line sounds like a bad fan clutch, does it drop when the car is cruising, go up while sitting? If so that is something to take care of, but not too likely a source of failing smog.

It does have a factory cat.

I think the fan clutch is good. It passes the resistance test from hand spinning. It definitely did start climbing today while sitting, but it was after a long run and it was idling in the sun for about half an hour. Temp hangs below the mid point while driving. I should also mention that I have my electric fan out for repainting so that might have some effect on air movement while sitting.

Just wanted to update this thread. I put in a new o2 sensor and a new factory cat. The element in the old cat was partially blocked and rattled - it was in pretty bad shape. Car actually runs smoother now and sounds a little deeper, but that's besides the point. Easily passed smog with very low numbers across the board.

I'm glad that it's all sorted. Smog can be a real worry, but you should be fine for a long time now. Have fun!

I think you need to check o2 sensor, egr valve then later you need to consider testing the cat. Check here for some helpful information. Smog check murrieta. www.smogstartestonly.com
