How to remove and replace L-Jet injectors?
Hi guys,
I am going to replace the short hoses on my injectors. I got the kit from Roger which included 8 2" hoses, 16 clamps, 8 large o-rings and 8 small o-rings. 4 of the hoses were replaced more than 10 years ago, and have two worm clamps on each hose. The other 4 have clamps at the top but not at the injector end. Obviously I can sacrifice the old hoses. My question is what is the best and safest way to remove the injectors (for cleaning) and removed and reinstall with new hoses? It looks easy in principle but I bet they are pretty stuck, and I don't want to break them.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave, I don't remember there being too much of a trick to it. I would say, although I am sure you already know, that if you are slicing the hose by the rail, be very careful not to score the barbs.
I am pretty sure I just wrestled mine out.

Wrap a few turns of safety wire around the body, wrapped into loops tall enough to pass a prybar through. Pass the prybar through, brace against something handy, and use it to pull straight up on the injector.

The factory injector hose replacement kit I had said to use a hot iron to burn through the hose.
I used the correct factory fuel line, comes in 1 meter lengths for about $10, and didn't need the clamps.
The correct length for them is 55mm, but 2 inches is close enough Hose PN is N-020-281-1-M21.
Good luck on the swap and be sure to pressurize the system to check for leaks before you start the car.
Don't want another 928 to go up in flames because of fuel lines.

Hope this goes well for you Dave...
I'm just a few steps behind you as I found a loose spark plug when working on my distributor- so checking the injectors and replacing the hoses is now on my list. I'll definitely be following this thread!
Knowing I'll need it, I'm actually getting my own Mityvac in case you need to borrow one- but I'm guessing you may already have a more complete tool set than I... (lol)
Looking forward to hearing good things!

Thanks, Tom. I am still in the gathering of parts phase of my project. I will probably start in earnest in a week or two. ai am mostly waiting for the supercharger kit before I take over my wife's spot in the garage.

Happy working Dave! I think 928 Int. offers a tool for removing the injectors without damaging them. Dont know if it is really necessary but you may want to check. I will be getting my car out of storage in the next few weeks and doing a lot of the same things, except for the supercharger, so I will see you out there soon!

I use an air powered hack saw to cut down the "cups" holding the rubber in place at either end.
I've torn apart many L-Jet fuel rails this way, quick and easy.

Well, I got the short hoses replaced but I lost my 10 mm socket. That and I was having a hard time getting the injector electrical connectors off. My patience ran out, and I took Carl's advice: if the car is running well (it was) you could cause yourself some trouble for nothing, pulling the injectors and maybe breaking something for cleaning they may not need.
So the fuel rails are back together with high pressure fuel injection hose, and 16 proper fuel injection clamps. (Thanks for the kit, Roger.)
Tomorrow, I buy a new 10 mm, and start to pull the intake plenum. That is part of the SC install.
When that's done, that should be the end of the tear down phase for the SC.
I can also start on the Y-pipe install, but the cat bolts look very rusty. I am spraying them with Kroil every day or so.
It's always something,
Thanks for helping,
Dave

Just undo the fuel rails and the injector hold downs and the L-jet injectors lift right out attached to the fuel rails. All that is required is a basic wrench set.
