Default Cheers from the U.P. of Michigan - New 928 Owner

I purchased this 1980 928 yesterday and have been browsing this site for a while. This is my first Porsche. I'm impressed by the attention to detail you all pour out on here. I look forward to hearing your opinions, insight and experiences as I navigate my way through this project.

Good runner and drives nice...lots of cosmetic work for certain.

Thanks for looking!

Very nice - welcome aboard. I think the 928 is one of the few cars that looks great in white. Love the clean look of yours. Post some engine bay pictures and interior shots as well. Also, read the new visitor FAQ at the top of the page - has tons of info for newbs (and those of us who have been around - good to go thru them every now and again).

Congrats on the car. Where did you find it? Is it an auto or 5 speed? What color interior? And, where in the UP are you from?

Thanks all. It's a barn find of sorts. Automatic, tan interior, 170k miles but I picked it up for $1,750. I live in Marquette.

Welcome, and see if you can plan on a nice drive to Hell in Aug, we do an annual "Sharks In Hell" each year, most likely the most 928's you will see in one place in MI.

I'm a few hours south of him and we still have a couple feet of snow on the ground.

There is more on the way too.

I'm a couple hours south of you (and west) and the ground's getting bare in spots! Hallelujah!

Congrats on the purchase too, Yooper928!

I've got a neat little canal going in the back yard where the sump pump discharges.

Welcome. Not the best color for up there, IMO. You'll lose it in a snowdrift.
But like Ron said, take a good look at the fuel lines.

I keep hoping spring is coming, then we keep getting clobbered.

I'm about 20 miles southwest of Green Bay and we are finally starting to see bare patches.

Nice car! That’s going to be a blast after the thaw. Beautiful up there--I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer back in the day. Welcome, eh?

Welcome aboard from a fellow (former) yooper and a graduate from Michigan Tech. What part are you from? I was born and raised in the Keweenaw peninsula (our town has a record of 398 inches of snow). I have found the 928 as being pretty good in snow. It may not be all-wheel drive but the 50-50 weight distribution is pretty good.

With all of that snow, I never had great trouble getting around. Here in Wyoming we have an added ingredient - that being wind. You haven't lived until you experience 100 mph wind with snow.

To Hacker-pascherr:

Packers uber alles. Then again we kinda like the Broncos here in Wyoming.
