Default 82 electric doorlock fix

On my 82 5 speed the electric locks have never worked and since almost everything is sorted out and I want to install the Commando KE40 keyless entry, I decided to tackle these today.

Using the WSM and previous write ups as a guide, I checked the 400mA fuses and power to the lock motors. No power to either door, but the motors worked when powered by outside 12 volts.

I replaced the 400 mA fuses even though they showed good continuity, 50 cents at Radio Shack. Still no power.

The WSM wire diagram shows the power locks 12 volts go through K2 terminal, so I checked that and no voltage. WTF?!!! The black/red wires on the back of the electric panel looked good from K2 to the 400mA fuses holders but no power.

As I checked for voltage on all the K terminal blades, I noticed an unused hot blade at the top of the K terminal. I thought what the heck, try connecting the K2 female connector to the unused hot blade at the top of K.

I checked the 400 mA holder and got over 12 volts. I twist of the key and the whole system worked instantly, but a little slow as I'm sure the motors haven't cycled in 15 years. After cycling the locks a couple of times, it was very smooth.

I still have no idea why the K2 blade didn't work, but I did have to fix multiple ground squirrel wire chewings and I may have missed that one.

Long story short, it all works and I can install the keyless entry.. Thanks for all the keyless entry write ups in the past, Very helpful!
