First Post - new 928 owner w/ pics
Been lurking for several months but this is my first post on the site.
I recently bought a 1985 928 Euro 5 speed with 32,000 miles, my first Porsche. It was a grey market car imported directly into the US, so it has a 16 valve 310 HP engine, not the 32 valve engine that was new for the US in '85. The dash lights and pretty much everything else written in the car is in German, which is pretty cool.
It's spent most of it's life in a garage and has been very well maintained. From the records I have it has only had about 10,000 put on it in the last 15 years. The owner I bought it from put a lot of work into it including changing the timing belt about 2 years ago. This car has been begging to be driven, which I will take care of, and have already started.
It is mechanically sound but has some electrical glitches and the leather on the dash and trunk quarter panels is pulling up. Other than that the interior is in great shape for a 29 year old car. From reading this site it appears my minor electrical glitches are quite normal and my first project will be to clean all the grounds, with help from several threads on this site.
When I first drove it, it ran a little sluggish and I wasn't all that impressed with the power, but I understood it needed to be driven after sitting for so long. On some good advice I put a can of BG44K in the tank and drove the heck out of it. I put 100 miles on it the day I got it and by the time I had run through that tank it was running pretty good. I also figured out that "warmed up" has a little different meaning for an alloy engine Porsche than it does for your normal daily driving car. That includes the transmission and drivetrain.
I absolutely love this car, I'm 45 years old and this my wife's midlife crisis insurance policy. She thinks I'm nuts but if it keeps me from chasing 22 years olds, she's happy.
I've always loved the 928, it was one of the cars I lusted after around the time I got my driver's license and even though it was designed almost 40 years ago it doesn't look dated at all. The car has so many different views to it depending on what angle you look at it. It's just classic style. The handling is spectacular, you can get it sideways but only if you want to, and only for as long as you want to. It's not the most powerful car I've ever driven, and certainly the most powerful I've ridden in, but it's got enough for my tastes.
Happy to be a Porsche owner and especially happy to have picked up a 928!

Another Charlotte Shark!!!
Welcome to the Rennlist Shark Tank!
And of course, welcome the one of the Nation's highest concentration of 928's... the North Carolina krew.
PM your info so I can add you to our spreadsheet (neilh is the 928OC rep for NC but I unofficially keep a running tally of 928'ers here on RL from NC).
BTW, it looks like your dash leather is salvageable... but the dash should come out to do it. After some conditioning to make it pliable again, reattach it underneath. The dash frame is metal, so it shouldn't warp like quarter panels or door cards will.

Welcome to the shark tank! I need to say that those cars are amazing, but the ownership is only possible (or viable $$$) with the support of hundreds of owners of Rennlist. Hope to see you around.
The car looks great! Enjoy!
Best,
GM (from Brazil)

Welcome!!
Very nice car. The Euro 310HP motor gives the other motors (32V) a run for their money, and five speed just caps it off.
Looks like you may have a full leather interior. Post your VIN and I can let you know the options.
