Apparently the PO, who operates a auto repair shop, hasn't learned the finer art of automotive service. Here we see the progression of impatience leading to disaster.

Clearly he firmly believes in the "if it doesn't fit get a bigger hammer" method.-)

So depressing - new motor is junk. Noticed a crack next to over pressure valve. While removing the spring nut the block blew apart in my hands. To make matters worse I pulled the oil pump and it hand eaten a foreign object and took it out.

If anyone has any ideas I am open to it. But I suspect this motor is also going to the melting pot.

There's $1000 I would have far more enjoyed burning in my fire pit.

This is another case of WWTT for Porsche. I could have easily salvaged this block IF Porsche engineering thought about the possibility of a foreign object making its way into the oiling system. If instead of using the block as the backend of the oil pump, they used a steel plate, I'd have an out. Anyway I am looking for another block or engine.

My suggestion would be to get an engine from 928 international. Mark provides a guarantee on his parts.

Thanks for sending that! Very inspirational post. I am not going the restoration route with this victim. Funny I just bought the same material he did

Well back to searching for an engine...

What a great story. Enjoying this immensely.

If you haven't come up with a name yet, I respectfully submit: Inga. Herr Doktor would be proud.

Statement of fact when buying cheap none running project cars it is ALWAYS a gamble sometimes it works out OK, often it does not. But it is always an adventure and nothing wrong with that anyone with enough $$$ can simply buy a really nice car. For others it is the journey. And yes I am a bottom feeder always looking for a deal !! I just prefer that they run and drive...

The shark was running and driving. In fact the PO dumped a lot of cash into the car before losing #1 cylinder due to a bad injector. I bought it knowing it had a bad cylinder. And yes it's all about the journey. If I wanted a car I could just jump in and drive I'd buy a Volvo - oh yeah I did that ;-) I have a daily ride, a Volvo 850R, and it gets driven real hard. The shark is part of a life long journey of learning. I have owned over 100 cars and the ones I loved the most cost me the least - like the 850R. If that makes me a bottom feeder - then guilty as charged your honor :-D
