EBC Red Stuff etc. brake pads - discount
I ordered a set of EBC Red Stuff brake pads for my SL55 AMG (bought from our Rennlist 928 buddy Bigs) from KSpecRacing yesterday, and they sent me the following:
"I will issue you a coupon code so you can get some additional savings on our EBC product line.
The code is: EBC37
Please go ahead and help spread more news about us to your forum members and you can share the coupon code as well. Thanks."
SO - anyone who is interested in buying EBC Green Stuff (street), Red Stuff (HP street or mild track), or Yellow Stuff (Track) brake pads, feel free to use this discount with any order you might make with KSpecRacing (www.kspecracing.com).

Mark,
Never used the Red Stuff pads on the track, but I have them on my wife's Audi A8, and and my '94 928. They take a bit longer to 'bed' (EBC recommends normal urban/suburban driving for about 1K miles , trying to avoid hard braking, as the bedding procedure). I've only used Red Stuff, not Green or Yellow.
The Red Stuff pads have - in my opinion - excellent bite for street/highway driving, good overall feel, and VERY low dusting. On my wife's A8, the OE pads created BLACK front wheels in about 0.5K miles if not cleaned frequently. The Red Stuff pads have hardly any deposit in that amount of driving, and there is hardly any difference in appearance of front or rear wheels.
No experience yet for them on the SL55 AMG, but the 4 months experience on the A8 gave me the confidence to adopt them for it!

Ken,
It's been about 6 months since I ordered the the two full sets of pads for the GTS and A8 (haven't received the price/shipping for the SL55), and I remember the shipping charges were a bit high (the pads were drop shipped from EBC, the mfg). But, the selling price combined with the shipping charges were certainly less than any other source I could find for these pads.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, thought I'd add a few more comments about my experience with these pads:
The Red Stuff pads I have on the 928 GTS and the A8 are the first time I've had EBC pads. Used lots of other types, and either had too much brake dust, too much noise, too little stopping power. Never found the combination I liked as well as I have with these Red Stuff pads.
I might have tried their Yellow Stuff for track driving, but I retired from that last summer and sold the track car. They don't claim that the Green Stuff pads have low dusting.
I've found the urban/suburban driving with the Red Stuff gives VERY good feel, almost no dusting, and in about 2K miles of driving, haven't heard any squeal on the A8 (haven't driven the GTS very much since installing them there). The pads are a Kevlar/ceramic matrix. Can't speak for rotor wear, but it is supposed to be minimal (less than the metal matrix reinforced pads, I'm sure). The 'bedding' procedure they recommend is quite different than high performance pads I've previously used. They recommend ~1K miles of typical urban/suburban driving without any HARD breaking (if possible). I have not tested them for high speed or mountain driving 'fade', but believe it should be good, as they are a 'high performance' type pad.
Again, no association with either EBC or KSpecRacing. Just a very satisfied customer, and changing to their pads on the SL55.

PS: I did do an 80+ mph hard stop yesterday in the A8. Temp was in the 50's, so pavement wasn't real warm! But, with moderately firm pedal pressure, the ABS kicked in, as the brake friction was better than the tire/pavement friction. Immediately did a second one from even higher speed, and same result - so, the higher temp of the pads did not result in fade in this case.

Gary, thanks for the review. I need to order these for my '93...with the S/C that car builds speed REALLY quickly and the pads are just stock original crap...massive dusting, NO BITE!

Hey James, are you going to replace rotors with those pads? I have a pair of nice 964 cross-drilled fronts stashed away if your current ones are worn and need to be replaced, shoot a PM ...
BTW, I am running these pads on my rears and can confirm they dust a lot less than OEMs.

i've had Redstuff pads before on another car and .... never again.
they scored the hell out of my rotors. threw the pads and rotors away, and replaced with Hawk performance ceramic and was very happy with those.
i hope you guys have better luck. i was warned on the Subaru forum, and learned my lesson the hard ($$) way.

Landshark,
Thanks for your experience/observations. I'll certainly watch for this, but no indication so far with the A8 Audi. Other users on the Audi board have indicated their experience has been good as well.
We'll see, as I'll have them on an Audi, MB, and the GTS

I recently purchased a set from a forum member, based my decision on reading nothing but good about them. I hate the extremely high dusting I get right now. I am going to replace the rotors with OEM at the same time. Curious about the rotor wear comment... perhaps a problem with your rotors (thickness spec) beforehand?

Again, I was warned about this on the LGT forums, didnt listen, learned lesson ....

928 rotors could be a completely different situation. With several of us using them and watching for changes we should know something soon.
Tom, I am good on the rotor side for now. Remember the car only has 27k miles on it! The pads are just not good (stock pads never were...21 year old pads are even worse!) BTW, did you mean 965 Rotors??? The 964 rotors are S4 size IIRC and the 964 turbo is a 965 and those were GTS size...I think... Honestly I didn't think the 911 got GTS size discs till the 993TT with its Big Reds. Unless the 965 did in fact also have those same brakes...
